Job Title: COBOL Mainframe Developer

Job Description
We are seeking an experienced COBOL Mainframe Developer to support the development, maintenance, and enhancement of enterprise-level mainframe applications. The selected consultant will work on mission-critical systems, translating business requirements into technical solutions while maintaining and supporting existing mainframe environments.
The role involves working with legacy applications, troubleshooting production issues, and supporting modernization initiatives including potential migration to web-based platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Application Development & Maintenance
- Develop and maintain applications using COBOL on IBM mainframe environments.
- Translate business requirements and technical specifications into structured programs.
- Modify and maintain data entry screens, batch processes, reports, and queries.
- Participate in code reviews and support application enhancement initiatives.
Testing & Troubleshooting
- Perform program testing, debugging, and validation of application changes.
- Execute test cycles and analyze results to ensure system accuracy and stability.
- Identify and resolve data issues through analysis and troubleshooting.
- Generate data analysis and summary reports as required.
System Enhancement
- Assist in modernization initiatives including migration of legacy applications.
- Optimize and improve application performance and processing efficiency.
Documentation & Support
- Prepare technical and user documentation for developed applications.
- Follow organizational standards for code management and deployment.
- Provide ongoing production support and issue resolution.
Required Skills
- 5+ years of experience in COBOL development on IBM Mainframe systems
- Strong experience with:
- Experience with CICS and batch processing
- Strong understanding of SDLC processes
- Experience troubleshooting and debugging legacy applications
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and documentation abilities
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Java development
- Exposure to AWS
- Experience with PostgreSQL
- Familiarity with Kofax
- Experience working in open systems environments
Additional Information
- This position requires onsite work from Day 1 in Atlanta, GA.
- Strong debugging and production support experience is required.
- Candidate must be able to follow established source control and deployment procedures.
