Description of JobInformation Technology Services DivisionThe Information Technology Services (ITS) Division provides information systems and computer support for employees, customers of the Department of State, and therefore the people of Colorado. Much of the work completed by the division can be done remotely, contributing to the positive work-life balance of its employees. The Colorado Department of State is unique from many state agencies in that we are a smaller agency with an in-house ITS division, as a result our employees maintain greater collective impact over the work product of the Department.
As one of the few state agencies with a fully in-house ITS Division, the Colorado Department of State provides a unique environment where technology leadership directly influences statewide services and supports multiple critical systems for the State of Colorado.
The Systems Operations UnitWork unit staff evaluates, selects, installs, upgrades, enhances, and maintains all domain servers, including, but not limited to, domain controllers, file server(s), print server(s), mail server(s), accounting system server(s), domain database server(s), phone system server(s), utility server(s), etc.
The work unit's duties involve all aspects surrounding the collection, storage, and dissemination of data received from Colorado counties for voter registration including HAVA (Help America Vote Act) supplied through SCORE system, UCC filings, domestic and foreign business entities, notary, campaign finance, lobbyist, and any other systems assigned to the CDOS office through legislation.
The Systems Operations team provides CDOS technical operating system and base application support, as well as general assistance for development, database, engineering, and security teams.
Illustration of DutiesAs the Systems Engineer you will be a valued member of the Systems Operations team, which provides safe and secure infrastructure and operations across all of the agency's vital systems as well as the data collected and maintained by our systems. You will be a part of a department that continues to be recognized as a leader, both in Colorado and nationally, in the use of technology in multiple program areas. In this position, you will experience working within a high-functioning professional team and collaborating with other teams within the ITS Division and the Department.
The ideal candidate will be proficient in administering Operating Systems, specifically Linux with additional knowledge in virtualization and cloud support. You should display strong problem-solving skills with the ability to use research, reason, and deduction to resolve technical issues.
