As a Cassandra Database Engineer, you will play a critical role in managing and optimizing our Apache Cassandra database infrastructure. You will be responsible for ensuring the high availability, performance, and reliability of our data storage solutions. Your expertise in Cassandra will be essential in supporting our data-driven initiatives and maintaining the integrity of our data architecture.

Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain Apache Cassandra clusters in production environments.
• Perform routine database maintenance tasks, including backups, restores, and cluster repairs.
• Optimize Cassandra performance through tuning, indexing, and query optimization.
• Implement and manage replication strategies, consistency levels, and failure handling mechanisms.
• Develop and execute cluster repair and compaction workflows to ensure data integrity.
• Collaborate with development and operations teams to design and implement efficient data models.
• Create and maintain documentation for database configurations, procedures, and best practices.
• Monitor database performance and health, identifying and resolving issues proactively.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior database engineers and other team members.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on experience managing Apache Cassandra in a production environment.
• Strong proficiency in CQL (Cassandra Query Language), cqlsh, nodetool, and cluster repair/compaction workflows.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, masterless architecture, replication strategies, consistency levels (quorum), and failure handling.
• Proficiency in Linux/Unix shell scripting or Python for automation.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).

• Experience with other database technologies (e.g., SQL, NoSQL).
• Knowledge of data modeling and schema design principles.
• Familiarity with cloud-based database services (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
• Experience with monitoring and alerting tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana).
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
