DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
1. K–12 Domain Expertise
• Experience working in a K–12 environment (school district, county office,
charter network, or state education agency).
• Familiarity with student operations and data domains: enrollment, attendance,
scheduling, discipline, special education, grade reporting, assessments,
college/career, HR & payroll, and finance.
• Understanding of K–12 compliance/reporting (e.g., CALPADS, Ed-Fi, ESSA,
IDEA, accountability dashboards) and how QA supports data accuracy.
2. SIS, EdTech, and Enterprise Systems QA
• Hands-on QA experience with major K–12 platforms (e.g., Aeries, PowerSchool,
Infinite Campus, Synergy, Illuminate, Ed-Fi ODS/API).
• QA for integrations across SIS, Special Education (e.g., SEIS/Frontline),
Assessment (e.g., CAASPP/ELPAC, NWEA), Learning Management (e.g.,
Canvas, Schoology), and Data Warehouses.
• Experience validating data flows, reconciliation rules, and nightly/near-real
time sync jobs.
3. Test Strategy & Lifecycle Leadership
• Ability to define end-to-end QA strategies and test plans (unit, integration,
system, UAT, regression, smoke, performance) aligned to the school year and
state reporting calendars.
• Establishes entry/exit criteria, risk-based test prioritization, and traceability
from requirements to defects.
• Leads defect triage and go/no-go readiness with IT and business owners.
4. Requirements & UAT in School Settings
• Skilled at translating business rules from non-technical staff (registrars,
counselors, principals, SPED teams) into clear test cases and acceptance criteria.
• Orchestrates User Acceptance Testing at school sites and central offices;
develops scripts and checklists tailored to school calendars and staffing
constraints.
• Ensures configuration changes (e.g., grading windows, bell schedules, course
codes) are thoroughly validated pre-launch.
5. Automation, Tools, & CI/CD
• Experience designing maintainable test automation frameworks and regression
suites for web, API, and data pipelines.
• Tools may include: Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, Postman/ReadyAPI,
JMeter/Locust (performance), pytest/JUnit, GitHub/GitLab/Azure DevOps
CI/CD, and test management (e.g., Azure Test Plans, Zephyr, TestRail).
• Familiarity with scheduling and validating ETL/ELT (e.g., SQL, SSIS, dbt,
Power Query), and comparing source/target with reconciliation rules.
6. Data Quality & Governance
• Designs test data sets and validation rules to catch duplicates, missing fields,
conflicting records, and referential integrity issues (students, enrollments,
programs, attendance, SPED services).
• Implements QA gates for state reporting submissions (e.g., CALPADS
validations) and local accountability dashboards.
• Establishes repeatable checks for master data (schools, terms, calendars, courses,
staff, programs).
7. Accessibility, Privacy, and Security
• Validates accessibility to WCAG 2.2 AA standards and Section 508 compliance;
familiar with screen reader and keyboard-only testing.
• Ensures data privacy and security compliance, with working knowledge of
FERPA, COPPA, role-based access, audit trails, and secure data transfer (SFTP,
secure APIs).
• Performs negative testing, permission matrix testing, and PII
redaction/obfuscation checks across environments.
8. Performance, Reliability & Scalability
• Plans and executes load/stress testing for high-traffic periods (e.g., online
enrollment peaks, grading/report card windows, first-day attendance, state test
windows).
• Monitors and reports on availability, latency, and error budgets; collaborates
with infrastructure teams to tune caching, queues, or database performance.

Release & Change Management
• Applies structured release practices (branching, versioning, environment
promotion, rollback plans) with clear cutover checklists.
• Coordinates blackout periods around critical school dates; communicates risk
and mitigation plans to leadership and school sites.
• Oversees sandbox refresh protocols and production data protection during
testing.
10. Documentation, Training & Communication
• Authors clear test plans, test cases, test data specs, and defect reports; maintains
living QA standards and SOPs.
• Creates stakeholder-friendly QA summaries and dashboards for executives and
non-technical staff.
• Develops quick-reference guides and job aids for UAT participants and site
based testers.
11. Education & Certifications (Preferred)
• Bachelor's or Master's in Information Systems, Education, Data/Computer
Science, or related field.
• Certifications such as ISTQB (Foundation/Advanced), CSTE, PMI‐ PBA, CBAP,
CSM/PSM, Lean Six Sigma (Green/Black Belt), and Accessibility (IAAP
CPACC/WAS).
SCOPE OF SERVICES
a) Quality Assurance Strategy & Planning
• Develop comprehensive QA strategies, test plans, and test schedules aligned
to school-year operational cycles (enrollment, grading windows, assessment
periods, state reporting).
• Define test methodologies (functional, regression, integration, UAT,
performance, and accessibility testing).
• Establish quality standards, acceptance criteria, and QA checkpoints for
technology projects.
b) Test Case Development & Execution
• Analyze business requirements, system specifications, and state reporting
rules to create detailed test cases and scripts.
• Execute manual and automated testing for SIS modules, integrations, data
pipelines, and web-based applications.
• Validate system configurations, business rules, enrollment logic, attendance
calculations, grading processes, and program eligibility rules.
c) Data Validation & Compliance Testing
• Perform data validation across SIS, special education, Schoology, one
enrollment, parent portal integration.
• Verify accuracy and consistency of K–12 operational data including
enrollment, attendance, discipline, grades, transcripts, course codes,
scheduling, SPED services, and staff data.
d) Integration, Interface, and ETL/ELT Testing
• Test data flows between SIS and connected systems (assessment, SPED,
LMS, HR, data warehouse).
• Validate API endpoints, SFTP transfers, ETL workflows, and near‐ real‐ time
sync processes.
• Ensure data mapping accuracy, referential integrity, and error‐ handling
reliability.
e) Accessibility, Security, and Privacy Testing
• Perform accessibility testing aligned with WCAG 2.2 AA and Section 508
requirements.
• Validate role-based access, permissions, and student-data protection
consistent with FERPA and COPPA.
• Conduct negative testing and security checks to ensure protection of
personally identifiable information (PII).
f) Defect Tracking, Analysis & Resolution
• Log defects using the district's test management tools (e.g., Jira, Azure
DevOps, TestRail).
• Lead defect triage sessions, assign priorities, and collaborate with
developers, system administrators, and product owners to resolve issues.
• Provide root‐ cause analysis and document recommendations for long-term
system and process improvements.
g) User Acceptance Testing (UAT) Coordination
• Plan and facilitate User Acceptance Testing with school site staff, counselors,
administrators, and central office teams.
• Prepare UAT scripts, checklist guides, business‐ friendly test scenarios, and
training materials.
• Document results, compile feedback, and validate system readiness for
production release.
h) Release Management & Deployment Support
• Support pre‐ deployment validation, smoke testing, and production
readiness assessments.
• Develop rollback plans, cutover checklists, and quality gates for system
releases.
• Validate production deployments and monitor early‐ life support for critical
operational periods.
i) Documentation & Reporting
• Create and maintain QA artifacts including test plans, scripts, traceability
matrices, data validation rules, and defect logs.
• Provide executive-level reporting on quality metrics, testing progress, risk
assessments, and system performance.
• Maintain documentation that supports repeatable, scalable QA processes.
j) Collaboration & Knowledge Transfer
• Work closely with IT, MiSiS administrators and SMEs, data governance
teams, special education, assessment, HR, and school-site stakeholders.
• Participate in cross‐ functional workgroups and provide expert QA
recommendations.
