IT Technical Project Manager - Retail, Merchandising & Data Platforms

Overview

We are seeking an experienced IT Technical Project Manager to lead complex, cross-functional technology initiatives supporting retail merchandising systems, store operations platforms, and enterprise data ecosystems. This role partners closely with both business and engineering teams to deliver scalable, high-impact solutions that drive retail operations and data strategy forward.
This is a highly execution-focused role requiring strong technical acumen, retail domain expertise, and the ability to coordinate across distributed (onshore/offshore) teams.

Key Responsibilities

Program & Project Delivery

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of large-scale technical programs across merchandising, store operations, and enterprise data platforms
  • Develop and manage project plans, timelines, milestones, and roadmaps
  • Break down complex initiatives into actionable workstreams and deliverables
  • Manage risks, dependencies, resource allocation, and delivery trade-offs
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and aligned with business goals

Retail Domain & Business Partnership

  • Act as a strategic technology partner to merchandising and store operations teams
  • Support systems and processes related to:
    • Merchandising lifecycle (item setup, pricing, margins)
    • Promotions and pricing platforms
    • Store operations and execution tools
    • Vendor, supply chain, and product data management
  • Translate business needs into clear functional and technical requirements
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Finance, Merchandising, and IT

Data Platforms & Technical Delivery

  • Lead initiatives across enterprise data platforms and analytics ecosystems
  • Support:
    • Data ingestion, integration, and pipeline development
    • Reporting, dashboards, and analytics solutions
    • Master data management (items, vendors, stores)
  • Partner with engineering and architecture teams to deliver scalable solutions
  • Communicate technical dependencies and risks to both technical and business stakeholders

Offshore Team Coordination

  • Provide daily leadership and coordination for offshore/distributed teams
  • Define priorities, scope, acceptance criteria, and delivery expectations
  • Facilitate stand-ups, issue resolution, and progress tracking
  • Drive accountability, quality, and consistent delivery across teams

Agile Delivery

  • Lead Agile processes including sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives, and backlog grooming
  • Monitor project performance, risks, and dependencies
  • Proactively identify and resolve execution bottlenecks
  • Continuously improve delivery processes and tools

Stakeholder Communication

  • Provide consistent updates on project status, risks, and milestones
  • Translate technical concepts into clear business-friendly communication
  • Maintain alignment between business priorities and technical execution

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, Business, or related field
  • 7+ years of experience in technical project/program management within retail or similar environments
  • Strong understanding of retail merchandising and store operations systems
  • Experience delivering data and analytics-driven platforms
  • Proven ability to manage offshore or distributed teams
  • Experience in grocery, multi-store, or big-box retail environments preferred

Technical Skills

  • Strong technical foundation working with engineering and data teams
  • Experience with:
    • Enterprise data platforms / data warehouses (EDW)
    • ETL/ELT pipelines, APIs, and system integrations
    • Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform)
  • Familiarity with retail systems (merchandising, pricing, POS, promotions)
  • Strong Agile experience (Scrum, Kanban)
  • Tools: Jira, Smartsheet, MS Project, or similar
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

Preferred / Nice to Have

  • PMP certification
  • Experience with Databricks
  • Experience in grocery or retail technology

Additional Details

  • Travel: up to 10-20%
  • Work environment: primarily office-based with cross-functional collaboration
  • Relocation support may be available for strong candidates

The pay range for this position is $150000.00 - $180000.00/yr.
