Overview

The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining software solutions that support standard laser systems as well as customized applications. This role includes leveraging APIs from commercial software platforms, such as Visual Components, to build integrated solutions. The individual will lead engineering efforts, collaborate cross-functionally with Automation System Engineers, Simulation Engineers, and management, and contribute to overall product and process improvements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain software plans, architecture, and roadmaps for standard systems.
  • Design, build, and deploy software solutions for both standard and customized applications.
  • Create detailed software specifications and provide technical guidance to engineering team members throughout project execution.
  • Review, test, debug, and enhance existing software to improve performance and reliability.
  • Lead and participate in cross-functional software design and code reviews.
  • Develop and maintain customizations within Visual Components, including commands and behavior scripts.
  • Collaborate with design, simulation, and project teams to ensure alignment and successful delivery of development efforts.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of project work in designated systems and repositories.
  • Deliver completed work within defined project timelines and allocated hours.
  • Contribute to cost reduction, value engineering, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide input on development strategies and technical plans when required.
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Perform additional duties or special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 8 years of relevant professional experience in software engineering or a related field.
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, C#, and C++.
  • Experience in web application development using technologies such as React, JavaScript, Electron, HTML, and CSS.
  • Experience with full-stack development and GraphQL.
  • Experience working with integrated development environments (IDEs) such as Visual Studio.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office or similar productivity tools.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with PLC programming and industrial control systems.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes and automation systems.
  • Experience working with laser equipment, processes, or applications.
  • Experience developing custom integrations with simulation or engineering software platforms such as Visual Components.
