SDET / Software Development Engineer in Test

Position: SDET Contractor

Location: Remote

Duration: 6 Months (Potential Extension)

Job Description

Core Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

• 8+ years of hands-on testing and automation experience with Selenium WebDriver or similar tools (Robot Framework) and/or software development experience in languages such as Python or Java.

• 4+ years of hands-on SQL database experience (insert/update for data setup, delete/update for teardown, select statements with simple joins for verification).

• 2+ years of hands-on REST API testing (verifying HTTP status codes and JSON responses using Postman); automation experience is a bonus.

• 2+ years of deep CI/CD pipeline experience (setting automation suites in deployment pipelines and optimizing test reports) using GitHub Actions, Codefresh, or Jenkins.

• 2+ years of experience with Playwright framework using TypeScript.

• 6+ years of experience working on an Agile team.

• Ability to think critically, communicate with team members, and ask questions.

• Ability to work independently with minimal guidance and contribute as a strong individual contributor.

• Ability to work efficiently to meet deadlines in a fast-paced startup-like environment.

• Assist other SDETs with technology or process guidance when needed.

• Participate in Agile team activities including daily scrum calls, backlog refinement, retrospectives, and other Agile meetings.

• Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills required.

Minimum Qualifications & Skills

• Act as a Test Architect on an Agile team with developers, SDETs, an architect, a product owner, and a scrum master.

• Contribute to Somos’ automation strategy, lead test scripting and security automation activities, and automate testing procedures.

• Identify areas of improvement and recommend tools for scaling, self-service, virtualization, and integration.

• Develop testing strategies for large and complex systems and provide technical direction for effective test architecture.

• Work on a multi-year/multi-team project to build an AWS web application with a ReactJS frontend, Spring framework microservices (REST APIs) backend, and Aurora database.

• Own testing of user stories including manual and automated testing, perform in-sprint automation using Robot Framework, and collaborate with other SDETs on Slack to review regression test failures.

• Work in standard 2-week sprints (daily standups, weekly refinements, bi-weekly sprint demos, and retrospectives).

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

• AWS or similar cloud experience.

• Experience in shift-left testing.

• Experience with JMeter or other performance testing tools.

• Telecom industry experience.

• Comfortable working on Mac or Unix-based OS.

• Experience in testing AI/ML, big data, and reporting.
