Position OverviewThe
Technician I is an entry-level role designed for individuals with little to no experience (up to one year) in structured cabling. Technicians will learn and develop the skills required to be a contributing member of a technical team while working under supervision on commercial projects.
Key Duties & Responsibilities- Install work area outlets for:
- Floor (monuments)
- Modular furniture (surface mount boxes)
- Walls (box eliminators)
- Drop cable down walls using fish tape or other methods
- Route cable through modular furniture
- Perform pre-termination procedures:
- Organizing, forming, and dressing cables
- Determining proper cable length and slack
- Labeling cables accurately
- Properly suspend and support cable using:
- Cable tray, J-hooks, D-rings, bridal rings, and trapeze systems
- Build and outfit closets:
- Mount/install backboards, racks, patch panels, cross-connects, fiber optic hardware
- Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cabling as required
- Perform fire-stopping procedures:
- Install sleeves
- Pull cable through sleeves and core penetrations
- Terminate low-voltage devices
- Complete all required company paperwork accurately and on time:
- Timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers, etc.
- Adhere to all company, customer, safety, and industry quality standards
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Required ToolsTechnicians must have basic hand tools, including:
- Screwdrivers (Phillips and flathead)
- Drywall saw
- Torpedo level
- Tape measure
- Snips (with belt sheath)
- Pliers (needle nose and channel locks)
- Hammer
- Wrench set
- Cable stripper
- Flashlight
- Gloves
Top Skills & Experience- Low-voltage cabling and wiring
- Structured cabling installation
- Color codes and cable terminations
- J-hooks and cable support systems
- Telecom and data center environments
- Fiber optic cable handling and splicing
- CAT5/CAT6 installation and termination
- Rack assembly, rack and stack, ladder rack installation
- Cable testing and troubleshooting
- CCTV and security systems (a plus)
Qualifications- 0-1 year of experience in structured cabling or low-voltage systems preferred
- Willingness to learn and work in a team environment
- Ability to follow safety standards and job-site procedures
- Reliable transportation and ability to work on-site
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fayetteville, GA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $21.00 - $24.00/hr.
