AI Engineer (GenAI / Multi-Agent Systems)

Location: San Diego, CA
Schedule: Hybrid (3 days onsite) with occasional Saturday work (approximately once per month)

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled AI Engineer to help build next-generation enterprise AI systems, with a focus on automated back-office workflows powered by multi-agent frameworks, LLMs, and AWS-native AI services.
In this role, you will design, develop, and operationalize advanced AI/ML capabilities while building autonomous and semi-autonomous agents that support large-scale operational workflows. You will work with cutting-edge tools in the GenAI ecosystem, architect agentic solutions end-to-end, and help drive meaningful impact across a rapidly evolving organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect, develop, and deploy AI-driven solutions using AWS services (Lambda, SageMaker, Bedrock, ECS, Step Functions, IAM).
• Build and optimize models through Bedrock using providers such as Anthropic, OpenAI, Titan, Meta Llama, and others.
• Develop multi-agent systems using frameworks such as AgentCore, Strand, and MCP.
• Build agent workflows including reasoning engines, action planners, retrieval systems, tool-use pipelines, and memory architectures.
• Implement guardrails, governance, and secure architectures for prompt routing, data handling, and model operations.
• Build automated pipelines for dataset prep, fine-tuning, evaluation, drift detection, and CI/CD.
• Perform supervised and parameter-efficient tuning (SFT, PEFT, LoRA, QLoRA).
• Integrate AI services into production applications, including API development and monitoring.
• Lead POCs, benchmarking exercises, and model evaluations to guide strategic decisions.

Required Skills & Experience

• 5-10+ years in Software Engineering or Machine Learning Engineering.
• At least 3+ years of hands-on GenAI experience.
• Strong experience with AWS AI services: Bedrock, SageMaker, Lambda, Step Functions, IAM.
• Deep experience with LLMs/SLMs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Llama, Mistral, Titan, Phi, etc.).
• Experience designing or orchestrating multi-agent frameworks.
• Strong Python engineering skills; experience with PyTorch or TensorFlow.
• Hands-on work with unsupervised machine learning techniques.
• Experience with vector databases, embeddings, and retrieval pipelines.
• Familiarity with MLOps best practices (CI/CD, monitoring, testing, IaC).
• Strong understanding of prompt engineering and evaluation methodologies.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience deploying AI in enterprise, regulated, or large-scale environments.
• Experience building workflow agents, AI copilots, or autonomous domain agents.
• Familiarity with LangChain, Haystack, Ray, or related ecosystems.
• Understanding of multi-modal models or tool-assisted reasoning systems.
• Knowledge of TypeScript/Node.js is a plus.

Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Diego, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $90.00/hr.
