BI Developer – Legacy Reporting Migration (Crystal Reports → Apache Superset)

About the Role

We're migrating our legacy Crystal Reports inventory to OneReporting, our enterprise BI platform built on Apache Superset. This is a hands-on, high-visibility engagement covering 100+ active reports across Account Management, Accounting (AP/AR), Client Analytics, Government Programs, and Customer Care — sourced primarily from Oracle, with some SQL Server, and largely delivered today as scheduled Excel/CSV output to internal teams and clients.so this role isn't just report-building — it starts with detective work: tracking down the right business stakeholders, confirming what each report actually does and who still relies on it, and building the migration backlog from there. A business SME will partner with you specifically for the rationalization phase, but driving the process — sessions, decisions, follow-through — is on you.

What You'll Do

• Work directly with business units across five functional areas to confirm report ownership, requirements, and current usage
• Reverse-engineer existing Crystal Reports (2008-era) — parameters, formulas, and embedded SQL — to understand what each report is really doing
• Lead report rationalization: assess usage, redundancy, and business value, and make clear decommission / consolidate / replace recommendations to business owners
• Rebuild the retained reports as datasets, SQL Lab queries, and dashboards in Apache Superset
• Migrate scheduled/automated report delivery currently running on VisualCron to the new platform
• Use AI tools (including Claude, which you'll be trained on) to speed up and improve consistency of report development
• Document a clear disposition for every report in the inventory and drive business owner sign-off on decommissions and consolidations

Required Experience

• Hands-on Crystal Reports development (2008-era versions), with proven ability to read and reverse-engineer existing reports, parameters, formulas, and embedded SQL
• Apache Superset (or a comparable modern BI platform) report/dashboard development — SQL Lab, datasets, semantic modeling
• Strong Oracle and SQL Server SQL skills; comfortable optimizing queries and validating results across platforms
• A track record of report rationalization — not just building reports, but assessing which ones should go away
• Demonstrated ability to operate independently in a large organization: finding the right stakeholders, running working sessions, and driving decisions without close supervision
• Experience with scheduled/automated report delivery and migrating that output to a new platform (we use VisualCron)
• Experience using AI tools to improve efficiency, consistency, or quality in software/report development

Preferred

• PBM, healthcare, or claims data experience
• Prior experience on an end-to-end BI platform migration or legacy-system sunset project
• Python/SQL-based automation experience for bulk report conversion or inventory analysis
