Summary

Job Title: Sr. Field Service Engineer / Controls & Maintenance Specialist

Start Date: ASAP
Duration: 6+ Months
Location: San Jose, CA
Work Schedule: Full-Time, Onsite
Project Details:
Our client is looking for a senior-level Field Service Engineer / Controls & Maintenance Specialist to support a manufacturing facility that is working through multiple equipment modernization and reliability initiatives. The facility operates with a wide variety of legacy manufacturing equipment and control systems that have been modified and expanded over many years.

The ideal candidate will serve as a technical leader who can troubleshoot complex maintenance issues while also leading capital improvement and equipment integration projects. Rather than simply performing maintenance, this individual will help prioritize, manage, and execute projects aimed at improving equipment reliability, integrating legacy systems, and modernizing the plant's automation infrastructure.

A significant portion of the work will involve supporting older Ameron manufacturing equipment and helping bridge the gap between legacy machinery and newer automation technologies. The client described their controls environment as a collection of older systems that have evolved over time, and they are looking for someone who can bring structure, standardization, and technical expertise to the facility.

This person will work closely with maintenance, engineering, and operations teams to troubleshoot controls issues, improve equipment performance, reduce downtime, and support future automation initiatives.
Musts:
- 7+ years of manufacturing maintenance, field service, controls, or automation experience.
- Strong PLC programming and troubleshooting experience.
- Experience supporting legacy manufacturing equipment and control systems.
- Hands-on electrical, mechanical, and industrial maintenance background.
- Experience leading technical projects or acting as a senior technical resource.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex equipment issues independently.
- Experience working directly with maintenance, engineering, and operations teams.
- Strong communication and project coordination skills.
- Comfortable working in a hands-on manufacturing environment.
Nice to Have:
- Experience with Ameron manufacturing equipment.
- Experience integrating legacy equipment with modern automation platforms.
- Commissioning and startup experience.
- Capital project or equipment upgrade experience.
- Field service background supporting multiple manufacturing facilities.
- Experience improving plant reliability, controls architecture, and equipment standardization.
