Job Summary

Industrial Power Solutions (a Sundt subsidiary) is seeking a VDC Engineer with a background in Electrical to produce high-quality, constructible electrical shop drawings and coordinated models that support successful field installation and project execution. This role is focused on construction-driven electrical VDC and drafting, not design engineering or architectural BIM. The VDC Engineer will support the development of detailed electrical layouts, conduit routing, equipment modeling, and installation drawings that are accurate, field-ready, and aligned with project schedules and construction requirements. The ideal candidate will work closely with project managers, field teams, and design partners to develop coordinated deliverables that efficiently move through review and approval processes while supporting safe and productive installation activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain positive working relationships with all members of the project team, including project managers, field teams, and design partners.
  • Produce high-quality work safely, accurately, and productively at all times.
  • Provide feedback to ensure all materials, tools, equipment, and information are available to support drawing production and coordination efforts.
  • Look for opportunities to improve workflows, drawing quality, and coordination processes.

Shop Drawing Production:
  • Develop electrical shop drawings including underground conduit layouts, aboveground conduit routing, and ductbank plans.
  • Produce equipment layouts, sections, elevations, and detailed installation drawings.
  • Translate construction documents into clear, accurate, and constructible drawings for field installation.

Revit and AutoCAD Execution:
  • Model conduit systems and electrical equipment in Revit to validate routing, support coordination, and extract production data.
  • Utilize AutoCAD for detailing and hybrid workflows as needed.
  • Leverage models to produce clean, accurate 2D drawings and schedules.

Submittals and Approvals:
  • Prepare submittal packages for AE review.
  • Track review comments and incorporate revisions.
  • Maintain Approved for Construction (AFC) documentation.

RFI and Field Support:
  • Identify conflicts and unclear information within contract documents.
  • Develop RFIs with supporting exhibits.
  • Provide field support and clarify installation intent.
  • Incorporate approved field changes into updated drawings.

Quality Control:
  • Perform thorough self-checks prior to submission.
  • Ensure consistency with contract documents, company standards, and project requirements.
  • Eliminate waste such as rework, delays, and inefficiencies in drawing production.

Minimum Job Requirements
  • Must have 2 to 7 years of experience in VDC drafting or construction documentation.
  • Must be proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, Word, and PDF markup tools.
  • Must have a strong understanding of conduit routing and electrical equipment layout.
  • Ability to work independently, manage assigned scopes, and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Physical Requirements
  • Work may involve extended periods at a workstation using computer-aided design software.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, and move throughout the office or jobsite as needed.
  • Occasional site visits may require navigating active construction environments, including uneven surfaces and varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) when visiting job sites is required.
