Job DetailsWe are seeking Construction Inspectors to support transportation construction projects throughout the Fort Wayne, Indiana area.
These positions involve performing field inspections, monitoring contractor activities, reviewing construction materials and workmanship, and documenting project progress to ensure compliance with applicable plans, specifications, and agency standards.
We have opportunities for candidates with different levels of construction inspection experience. Compensation and responsibilities will be determined based on qualifications and background.
Responsibilities
- Perform field inspections on roadway, highway, bridge, and transportation infrastructure construction projects.
- Monitor contractor activities to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, and applicable quality standards.
- Inspect construction activities involving concrete, earthwork, roadway paving, structures, foundations, and construction materials.
- Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
- Perform construction material testing and document results.
- Calculate construction quantities and verify completed work.
- Prepare daily inspection reports, progress updates, and project documentation.
- Monitor construction quality and identify potential deficiencies or noncompliance.
- Coordinate with contractors, engineers, project managers, clients, and public agencies.
- Maintain accurate records of construction activities, materials, and project progress.
- Support compliance with INDOT requirements and other applicable transportation construction standards.
- Work safely in active construction environments while maintaining awareness of project schedules and quality expectations.
Qualifications
- Experience in construction inspection, transportation construction, roadway construction, highway construction, or related infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with INDOT standards, specifications, and construction inspection procedures.
- INDOT Certified Technician certification.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans, drawings, and specifications.
- Experience monitoring construction materials, workmanship, and contractor activities.
- Ability to calculate material quantities and maintain accurate inspection documentation.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and safely navigate active construction sites.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and lift approximately 25-50 pounds.
- Flexibility to travel to project locations during the workweek, with occasional weekend work as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working directly on INDOT transportation construction projects.
- Experience with Indianapolis DPW or similar transportation agency standards.
- Background in Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI).
- Experience inspecting roadway paving, concrete, earthwork, foundations, or structural construction.
- Experience performing material testing and documenting construction quantities.
- Previous experience working with engineering consulting firms or DOT contractors.
- Senior-level candidates with 10-12+ years of transportation construction inspection experience are strongly encouraged to apply.
