Developer - Database

Description

We are looking for a Mid-Level Database Developer to join a Financial Services team on a long-term contract assignment. This position supports the creation and upkeep of data-focused applications, cloud-enabled services, interfaces, and reporting solutions that help move information reliably across the business. The role offers the opportunity to work closely with engineers, analysts, architects, and stakeholders while building practical experience in both data engineering and software development.

Responsibilities:

Build, enhance, and support data workflows and backend processes using Python, Java, SQL, Azure, and related technologies.

Move and refine data between multiple platforms by extracting, transforming, validating, and loading information across varied source and destination systems.

Contribute to cloud-based engineering solutions, including services for storage, processing, orchestration, monitoring, and analytics.

Create and improve database objects such as queries, views, stored procedures, and transformation logic to support performance and reliability.

Assist with integrating data across both relational and non-relational environments while helping maintain consistent and accurate datasets.

Develop, test, and support software components and services that interact with internal platforms and external applications.

Work with REST and GraphQL interfaces by building or consuming endpoints, handling authentication, managing requests and responses, and supporting error handling.

Monitor pipelines, APIs, and applications to identify processing issues, troubleshoot defects, and improve data quality and overall system performance.

Produce and maintain dashboards and reports in tools such as Tableau and Power BI to support operational and business visibility.

Document technical workflows, specifications, transformation rules, and support procedures while collaborating through GitHub, code reviews, testing, and deployment activities.

Requirements

Hands-on experience with Python and Java for software or data engineering work.
Working knowledge of SQL and database development concepts, including query optimization and data transformation.
Familiarity with both relational and non-relational databases and the integration patterns used to connect them.
Exposure to cloud technologies, preferably within Azure, and an understanding of service-based application design.
Experience using REST APIs and awareness of GraphQL concepts for system integration.
Ability to troubleshoot technical issues, monitor application behavior, and maintain quality-focused development practices.
Comfortable working in collaborative environments with clear communication, documentation, and engagement with stakeholders.
Familiarity with GitHub, secure development expectations, and responsible handling of confidential information.
