We have an exciting role for a Wi-Fi Lab Engineer 1 on Comcast/SKY's Global Test House Team. Our team works closely with our internal and external development partners to develop and conduct quality testing on Comcast's Wi-Fi products. Efforts within the team help ensure a world-class customer experience for the millions of Comcast and SKY customers on our products and platform applications.
We are looking for a highly motivated technical person who will support our Wi-Fi labs and help test engineers when the testbeds or devices under test present issues that affect their function. This role will also keep our lab networks stable and dependable.
The Wi-Fi Test Lab Engineer will be responsible for testbed setup, testbed maintenance, testbed and equipment software updates, testbed vendor interaction, inventory and support for the lab technician.
Core Responsibilities
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to independently support related issues and maintenance. As well as diligently report and escalate lab issues to lab manager when need be.
- Collaboration with the test engineers and equipment vendors to resolve any technical issues
- Hardware preparation including laptop manipulation and configuration: This involves the installation of new OS into the device, creating dual boots, replacing internal Wi-Fi modules, etc.
- Testbed maintenance including test failure support and upgrades: To get to know the lab's testbeds quite well to support test engineers with no delay when issues arise
- Comcast devices bring up and configuration: To learn the Comcast environment and be familiar with Comcast products. To be able to upgrade/downgrade their software and getting them ready for test engineers to use as devices under test
- Network upgrades and maintenance including ethernet and DOCSIS: To have an excellent relationship with the Comcast IT and infrastructure teams. To be able to solve any issues in our ethernet and DOCSIS networks in the lab
- Shipping management and logistics support: To have strong relationship with the shipping department in Comcast and all other carries that deliver equipment to Comcast. To manage the delivery of devices in and out of Comcast
- To receive shipments and add them to the inventory database as they come in. Also to check in and check out items within the inventory database as requested by the team.
- To help support purchasing and keeping a running list of purchase orders
- Excellent communication skills to share reports with management. Excellent writing skills is a key, since the job requires communication with various teams and the reporting to management of the weekly activities.
- Wiring and cabling: Be able to test, run, label and attach cables
- To keep updated and accurate Lab logs and the team's internal web page with all lab related information and guidance
Experience/ Technical Skills
Pre-Requisite:
- BS degree in Electrical or Network Engineering or related technical field
- Excellent communication skills.
- Good understanding of 802.11 standards and specs, IP, DHCP, VLAN and IoT testing (Zigbee, Bluetooth, Thread, etc.), and networking
- Troubleshooting and root-cause-analysis skills
- 3 - 4 years of experience in networking and wireless technologies
- Candidate must be able to capture and analyze packets using variety of tools like Wireshark and Omnipeek to analyze Wi-Fi issues with the testbeds.
- Should be able to extract, analyze and debug logs on Android and iOS
- Should have hands on experience with computers and equipment in general
- Good Knowledge on RF concepts is required: splitters, attenuators, antennas, amplifiers, connectors
- Hands on Spirent, Candela and Crecre testbed experience is very much preferred but not required.
- Ability to work with technology partner/vendor teams to troubleshoot problems
- Regular, consistent and punctual attendance; able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) as necessary.
Optional:
- Experience with broadband product test including DOCSIS, cable modem standards, digital voice and other
- Hands-on experience with device/consumer products test, ideally in high performance video applications
- Background in working in highly automated product test environments and able to assist in test automation/maintenance when necessary
