Alation Data Catalog Project Manager

Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and driven Alation Project Manager to lead the implementation and adoption of the Alation Data Catalog within our financial organization. You will be the bridge between our business users (data stewards, analysts, quants, compliance officers) and technical teams, ensuring the platform delivers tangible value in line with strict financial industry requirements. Your success will be measured by user adoption, improved data literacy, and the establishment of a robust, governed data foundation.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership: Own the end-to-end project plan for the Alation deployment, including scoping, timeline, budget, resource allocation, risk management, and stakeholder communication.
Financial Sector Alignment: Tailor the Alation implementation to address critical financial use cases: BCBS 239, CCAR, GDPR, SOX compliance, lineage for risk modelling, enhancing FRTB and market risk data transparency, and enabling self-service analytics for business lines.
Stakeholder Management: Act as the primary point of contact for senior sponsors (CDO, CRO), data governance councils, IT, and business unit leaders. Translate business needs into platform configuration and vice-versa.
Governance & Stewardship Rollout: Design and execute the rollout of data stewardship workflows, business glossary management, and data quality collaboration processes within Alation, aligning with existing data governance frameworks.
Change Management & Adoption: Develop and execute a comprehensive change management strategy. This includes training programs, communication plans, and community building to drive active usage and a data-driven culture.
Vendor & Partner Management: Work closely with Alation representatives and any system integrators (SIs) to ensure best practices, manage upgrades, and leverage platform capabilities effectively.
Success Metrics: Define and track KPIs such as active users, glossary term growth, search volume, lineage coverage for critical reports, and reduction in data discovery time.
Required Qualifications & Experience
5+ years of project/program management experience, with at least 2+ years specifically focused on implementing a data catalog solution (Alation strongly preferred).
Proven experience in the Financial Services industry (Banking, Capital Markets, Insurance, Asset Management) with a clear understanding of its data, regulatory, and risk landscape.
PMP, PRINCE2, or similar project management certification.
Deep familiarity with key financial regulations and how a data catalog supports them (e.g., data lineage, data dictionary, policy management).
Strong technical aptitude to collaborate with data engineers, architects, and infrastructure teams on integrations, metadata sources, and security models (e.g., Kerberos, IAM roles).
Excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences.
Bachelor s degree in Business, Finance, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
Direct, hands-on experience administering or deeply configuring Alation (e.g., setting up workflows, stewards, connectors, compliance templates).
Experience with Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) for software implementation.
Knowledge of adjacent data technologies (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, Snowflake, Databricks, Tableau).
