About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Lead Programmer Analyst to provide technical leadership, application development expertise, and project coordination for critical business systems and client solutions. This role is responsible for designing, developing, enhancing, and supporting enterprise applications while leading development teams through project execution and implementation activities.

The ideal candidate will possess deep COBOL development expertise, strong analytical skills, and a proven track record of leading complex software development initiatives. This individual will serve as a key technical resource, ensuring the delivery of high-quality solutions that meet business and client requirements while mentoring team members and promoting development best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Solution Development
  • Design, develop, and implement system enhancements, modifications, and new application functionality to support business and client objectives.
  • Provide technical leadership for assigned projects and implementations, guiding development teams through all phases of delivery.
  • Develop and review technical designs, program specifications, and system documentation.
  • Assist with coding, testing, debugging, and implementation activities to ensure project success and on-time delivery.
  • Design reliable, scalable, and efficient application solutions that meet operational and performance requirements.
Project Management & Client Support
  • Coordinate development activities with business stakeholders, project requestors, and internal teams.
  • Develop project estimates, resource requirements, and implementation plans for assigned initiatives.
  • Monitor project progress and communicate status updates, risks, and issues to management.
  • Escalate schedule concerns, operational risks, and support challenges as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate completed solutions to stakeholders and validate that requirements have been met.
Team Leadership & Mentorship
  • Lead and mentor developers on assigned projects and initiatives.
  • Ensure development team adherence to established programming standards, procedures, and best practices.
  • Provide technical guidance, coaching, and knowledge sharing to junior and mid-level team members.
  • Foster collaboration and accountability across the development team to achieve project goals and deadlines.
  • Support continuous professional development through training and mentoring activities.
Process Improvement & Operational Excellence
  • Recommend improvements to development methodologies, processes, and tools to improve quality, efficiency, and responsiveness.
  • Ensure applications and system enhancements meet organizational performance, reliability, and supportability standards.
  • Assist in troubleshooting complex production issues and resolving balancing or reconciliation problems.
  • Support ongoing maintenance, enhancements, and optimization of existing applications and systems.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of professional COBOL programming experience.
  • 5+ years of progressively complex software development and project delivery experience.
  • Demonstrated experience leading technical projects and mentoring development teams.
  • Experience developing, testing, and supporting both online and batch applications.
  • Strong understanding of software development methodologies and programming best practices.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in Tandem/HP NonStop environments.
  • Proficiency with Tandem utility programs and associated development tools.
  • Experience modifying and developing SCOBOL online applications.
  • Experience supporting business-critical financial, transaction-processing, or enterprise systems.
  • Prior experience in client-facing application development environments.
