Overview

Talent Groups is seeking an experienced IBM Db2 Architect to optimize database performance, improve reliability, and support the migration of an existing production Db2 database from Windows to Linux.

The ideal candidate has strong hands on expertise in IBM Db2 LUW, Windows Server, Linux, SQL performance tuning, and production database migrations. Experience troubleshooting complex issues and working directly with IBM support is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess Db2 architecture, configuration, security, performance, and operational risks.
  • Analyze SQL execution plans, indexing, locking, memory, tablespaces, buffer pools, and database capacity.
  • Optimize custom SQL and high volume transactional workloads.
  • Troubleshoot production performance, storage, backup, recovery, replication, and availability issues.
  • Optimize Windows Server infrastructure supporting Db2.
  • Automate health checks, configuration validation, and backup verification using PowerShell or similar tools.
  • Plan and execute the migration of an existing production Db2 database from Windows to Linux, including dependency analysis, testing, cutover, rollback, and stabilization.
  • Configure and tune Linux environments for Db2.
  • Collaborate with IBM support and engineering to resolve complex technical issues.
  • Validate pre and post migration performance and maintain high availability, disaster recovery, and backup capabilities.
  • Document findings, migration plans, operational procedures, and recommendations, and provide knowledge transfer to internal teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Extensive production experience administering and tuning IBM Db2 LUW.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL performance tuning, indexing, buffer pools, tablespaces, memory management, logging, and backup and recovery.
  • Deep Windows Server administration and performance tuning experience.
  • PowerShell proficiency or comparable scripting experience.
  • Proven experience migrating an existing production Db2 database from Windows to Linux. New Linux deployments alone do not qualify.
  • Strong Linux administration skills, including storage, file systems, permissions, networking, and process management.
  • Experience developing migration, cutover, rollback, and validation plans.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills in business critical environments.
  • Ability to work effectively with IBM support and engineering.
  • Excellent communication and technical documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with TruckMate or similar transportation management systems.
  • Knowledge of transportation workflows, including dispatch, billing, settlement, EDI, and reporting.
  • Experience with Db2 HADR, replication, clustering, or pureScale.
  • Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux or SUSE Linux Enterprise Server.
  • Experience supporting 24/7 production environments and minimizing downtime during migrations.
  • IBM Db2 or Linux certifications.
