Job Title: Application Architect – Angular, Java & AWS
Project: Medical Imaging & Algorithm Workbench
Location: San Francisco, CA (Hybrid – 4 days onsite)
Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Application Architect to lead the architecture, design, and hands-on development of scalable enterprise applications for the Roche GIP program.
The role focuses on medical imaging platforms, AI/ML-enabled applications, and Algorithm Workbench capabilities, supporting both greenfield development and modernization of existing enterprise systems.
The ideal candidate will possess strong hands-on expertise in Angular 19, Java, Spring Boot, microservices, and AWS, along with proven application architecture experience and the ability to collaborate effectively with data scientists, algorithm engineers, business stakeholders, and engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
Application Architecture: Design scalable, secure, cloud-native applications using Angular, Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and AWS services.
Frontend Architecture: Define reusable Angular components, UI architecture, state management, frontend integration patterns, and performance optimization strategies.
Backend Development & Microservices: Design and develop Java/Spring Boot services, RESTful APIs, asynchronous processing, and event-driven architectures.
AWS Cloud Architecture: Design and implement cloud solutions using AWS services, including ECS/EKS, Lambda, S3, API Gateway, RDS, and IAM.
Medical Imaging & Algorithm Workbench: Define integration patterns for medical imaging workflows, algorithm execution, data processing, and AI/ML model lifecycle management.
System Integration: Design secure interfaces connecting enterprise applications, imaging repositories, data platforms, and algorithm services.
Technical Leadership: Lead technical design discussions, review code and solution designs, establish engineering standards, and ensure architectural consistency.
DevOps & Security: Collaborate with DevOps teams on CI/CD pipelines, containerization, automated deployments, monitoring, and secure development practices.
Architecture Governance: Develop solution architecture diagrams, technical design documents, API specifications, and architecture decision records.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with business analysts, data scientists, QA and validation teams, and product owners to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
Required Qualifications
12-15+ years of experience in application development, full-stack engineering, technical leadership, or solution architecture.
Strong hands-on expertise in Angular (preferably Angular 19), TypeScript, Java, Spring Boot, and RESTful APIs.
Proven experience designing and implementing microservices-based, distributed, and cloud-native applications.
Strong AWS experience covering compute, storage, networking, security, and deployment services.
Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, Git, and automated testing frameworks.
Understanding of application security, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), authentication, authorization, and API security.
Experience leading technical design discussions, architecture reviews, and engineering teams.
Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies and enterprise software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices.
Excellent problem-solving, stakeholder management, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in life sciences, biotechnology, healthcare, or medical imaging environments.
Familiarity with DICOM standards, medical imaging workflows, and imaging data management.
Experience integrating enterprise applications with Python-based AI/ML services, model inference APIs, or data science platforms.
Exposure to AI/ML Algorithm Workbench environments and scientific computing workflows.
Understanding of regulated software development, GxP, software validation, and data integrity requirements.
Experience with both greenfield application development and modernization of legacy enterprise platforms.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical architect with strong full-stack engineering capabilities who can own end-to-end application architecture while remaining actively involved in technical implementation.
The candidate should be able to make practical architectural decisions, guide development teams, and bridge enterprise application technologies with medical imaging and AI/ML capabilities. Experience working in complex, cross-functional environments is highly desirable, particularly where scalability, security, maintainability, and delivery timelines are critical.
