Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Test Engineer to join our engineering team in Gilbert, AZ. This role focuses on the design, development, and manufacturing of Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) used for testing advanced avionics and spaceflight hardware systems.

The ideal candidate will collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to develop test hardware, software, and documentation while ensuring all program schedules and technical requirements are met.


Key Responsibilities

EGSE Hardware Development

  • Design and develop Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) used to test company products.

  • Develop hardware interfaces for Unit Under Test (UUT) systems.

  • Select Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) test instruments and design custom test hardware.

  • Design custom test enclosures, cabling systems, and hardware interfaces.

  • Ensure hardware can verify all design specifications and contractual requirements.

Typical UUT systems may include:

  • Embedded Single Board Computers (SBC)

  • Analog and Digital I/O boards

  • Command & Data Handling (C&DH) systems

  • CompactPCI (cPCI) form factor hardware

  • Electrical Power System (EPS) boards for power switching and battery charging

  • Custom backplane extensions for subsystem integration


Test Software Development

  • Develop National Instruments LabVIEW VIs for instrument control and monitoring.

  • Build User Interface (UI) applications for command and telemetry monitoring.

  • Develop Python or PERL scripts for test automation and execution control.

  • Integrate test automation with VxWorks-based embedded systems.

  • Support integration of FPGA components using VHDL (preferred).


Documentation & Compliance

  • Create and maintain schematics, assembly drawings, and parts lists for custom test equipment.

  • Utilize documentation tools such as:

    • Microsoft Visio

    • Microsoft Excel

    • Document control systems

  • Develop formal engineering documentation including:

    • Integration & Test Plans

    • Environmental Test Plans

    • Acceptance Test Procedures

  • Ensure test processes demonstrate compliance with customer and design requirements.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.

  • 7 10 years of experience in test engineering or hardware test development.

  • Strong programming experience with C, LabVIEW, Python, or PERL.

  • Experience with circuit board design and hardware development.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Visio).

  • Experience creating cable drawings and hardware diagrams.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.

  • Ability to mentor junior engineers and support team collaboration.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with VxWorks embedded systems.

  • Familiarity with VHDL for FPGA integration.

  • Experience designing EGSE or aerospace test systems.

  • Experience working with embedded avionics hardware platforms.
