Job#: 3056576 Job Description: User Experience Designer
Location: Denver, Colorado (On-site)
COMPENSATION: $78 - $88 HOURLY
Role Overview
Our organization is seeking a Senior UX Designer to lead a user interface overhaul of a critical infrastructure control system. This system is utilized daily by technicians and engineers to monitor, manage, and operate essential data center infrastructure. The ideal candidate will quickly master a complex technical domain and redesign the user interface to ensure intuitive operation for both experienced personnel and onboarding technicians. You will collaborate directly with the engineering team to ensure design decisions are technically viable and shippable within the project timeline, focusing on a comprehensive improvement of information architecture, interaction patterns, and visual hierarchy.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess the current control system user interface and identify high-impact usability gaps, focusing on learnability, task efficiency, and error prevention.
- Develop a new design direction for the user interface, including information architecture, navigation, layout, and interaction patterns.
- Create process flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity mockups to communicate the redesigned experience clearly to engineering and leadership.
- Partner closely with engineering teams to validate technical feasibility, understand system constraints, and iterate on designs.
- Conduct usability testing and design reviews with technicians and operators to validate the effectiveness of the new design.
- Deliver a design system foundation containing component patterns, spacing, typography, and color usage to facilitate long-term maintenance.
- Present design rationale and progress reports to engineering leadership for review and alignment.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in design, human-computer interaction (HCI), or equivalent professional experience.
Experience: Seven or more years of experience in UX and interaction design for web-based applications, with demonstrated work on complex, data-rich, or operational interfaces such as dashboards, control panels, or monitoring tools.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in modern design tools, with a strong preference for Figma, and a proven portfolio showing before-and-after redesign work with clear articulation of design rationale.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing for industrial, infrastructure, or operational technology environments.
- Familiarity with design systems and the ability to establish scalable component patterns.
- Experience with usability testing in specialized or technical user populations.
- Ability to prototype interactions using Figma, HTML, CSS, or similar technologies to communicate complex behaviors to engineers.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present design decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
