Senior Cloud Backend Engineer - Java & Azure

Role Summary

StaffRight Associates is looking for a seasoned Senior Backend Engineer to join our client's team in Buffalo. In this role, you will act as a core technical lead, transforming high-level business goals into secure, high-performance backend systems. You will focus on building resilient RESTful services and cloud-native applications using Java and Spring Boot within the Microsoft Azure ecosystem.

(On-site 4 days/week) Compensation: Duration: 12+ Month Contract (Potential for Permanent Hire)

Key Responsibilities

• Engineering & Architecture: Build and refine enterprise-grade REST APIs using Java and Spring Boot. You will be responsible for the full application lifecycle, from service orchestration and authentication to sophisticated error handling.

• Cloud Infrastructure: Architect and deploy scalable solutions specifically for Microsoft Azure. This includes the hands-on configuration of Azure Functions, Key Vault, and Managed Identities.

• Security & Integration: Implement robust OAuth 2.0 protocols and token-based security. You will design HTTP client integrations that connect internal systems with third-party platforms, ensuring fault tolerance throughout.

• Technical Leadership: Head up complex systems analysis and design reviews. You will be expected to mentor junior developers, provide accurate project estimates, and produce high-quality technical documentation.

• Quality Assurance: Lead unit testing strategies and validation plans. You will troubleshoot performance bottlenecks and support UAT to ensure production readiness in a highly regulated environment.

Required Qualifications

• Experience: At least 5 years of professional experience in application development and systems analysis.

• Backend Mastery: Deep knowledge of Java (concurrency, multithreading, and data structures) and extensive experience with the Spring Boot framework.

• Azure Expertise: Proven track record of developing cloud-native architectures using Azure Functions, Service Integrations, and Application Insights.

• Secure API Design: Strong background in Java HTTP libraries, OAuth 2.0 flows, and implementing resilience patterns (retry logic, circuit breakers).

• Professionalism: Ability to navigate the SDLC within an enterprise governance framework, managing multiple concurrent projects while collaborating with stakeholders.

Preferred Skills

• Experience working within the Financial Services or banking industry.

• Familiarity with the regulatory requirements and security standards of highly controlled environments.
