Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Substation Designer to join our client's Engineering Distribution team. In this role you'll create 2D/3D design drawings, models, and material specifications for electrical substations while supporting standardization, safety, and quality across projects.

Responsibilities:
  • Produce 2D drawings & 3D models for substation physical design (foundations, grounding, conduit, bus design, layouts, switchgear, etc.)
  • Develop material lists, specifications, and design packages
  • Use AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, or Autodesk Map 3D (P4A)
  • Coordinate with engineers, construction, field services, project management, and maintenance teams
  • Communicate with vendors, manufacturers, and internal committees to resolve equipment/material issues
  • Transmit drawing packages using internal engineering systems
  • Attend site visits (pre-construction, during construction, post-construction)

Qualifications

Education (one of the following):
  • Bachelor's in Engineering or Engineering Technology
  • Associate degree + 5 years related experience
  • High school diploma + 8 years related experience

Preferred Experience
  • Electrical substation equipment knowledge
  • Transmission/Distribution substation operations experience
  • Understanding of utility grid operations & basic power system theory
  • Familiarity with NESC, NEC, and OSHA safety practices
  • Ability to create substation physical drawings from single-line/three-line diagrams
  • 2D/3D modeling experience (AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, SDS Inventor, P4A)
  • Experience with document management, estimating systems, and Primavera P6
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (required)
