TEKsystems is hiring for a data analyst for a financial firm in Saint Paul!Role OverviewThis role supports multiple lines of business by delivering analytics and insights that inform strategic planning and execution. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with complex, multi-source data and translating it into a clear, cohesive story that drives business decisions. This position goes beyond standard reporting and dashboarding-we are looking for someone who can surface meaningful insights, identify patterns, and help leaders understand what the data is telling us and why it matters.
Essential Functions- Architect and implement advanced analytics solutions using large, complex data sets to support strategic decision-making and measure the success of enterprise initiatives.
- Design, optimize, and maintain SQL queries; leverage advanced analytics tools (e.g., Python, R, Power BI, Tableau) for data modeling, visualization, and insight-driven storytelling.
- Synthesize data from multiple systems and structures into consistent, business-ready outputs.
- Conduct research and analysis on industry trends, competitive benchmarks, market dynamics, and emerging technologies to support strategic planning and executive decision-making.
- Partner closely with business stakeholders and subject matter experts to understand data definitions, context, and use cases.
Example Projects1. Translating Analytics Across Data PlatformsOne immediate project involves adapting an existing member engagement score-currently built on Minnesota data-to a new Colorado data environment. While the scoring approach itself is straightforward (a scorecard rather than a complex machine learning model), the underlying data structures differ due to Colorado being on a different core system.
The analyst would:
- Learn and understand a new data model that the team has not previously worked with.
- Partner with Colorado-based subject matter experts who are deeply familiar with the data.
- Translate existing logic so engagement can still be clearly identified (e.g., members with checking accounts, loans, and active debit usage versus members with only an indirect auto loan and little ongoing interaction).
- Ensure the resulting output remains consistent, reliable, and actionable across markets.
This project emphasizes technical fluency, data interpretation, and the ability to adapt existing solutions to new environments.
2. Market and Competitive AnalysisOther projects are more exploratory and strategy-oriented. For example, as the organization considers expansion into Wisconsin, the analyst may be asked to assess:
- The competitive landscape and key market players.
- Population, demographic, and economic trends.
- How the Wisconsin market compares to existing markets from a growth and opportunity perspective.
This type of work is less structured and more research-driven, requiring strong analytical thinking, comfort with ambiguity, and the ability to synthesize external and internal data into clear recommendations.
What Success Looks LikeThe ideal candidate can operate comfortably in both worlds:
- Technical execution, where strong data skills are used to build, translate, and validate analytics solutions.
- Strategic analysis, where insights are drawn from data to inform market decisions, planning, and leadership discussions.
Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in a scientific discipline with a quantitative focus (data science, statistics, mathematics, or related field).
Proficient in SQL and at least one visualization tool (Power BI, Tableau, or similar).
Experience with advanced analytical techniques (segmentation, clustering, A/B testing).
Exposure to and basic understanding of machine learning models and their applications.
Python is a plus.
Financial services experience is a plu
