Description: Job Title: Staff Electrical Engineer Location: Hanover, MD (Hybrid) Duration: 06 Months + extensions
Work Hours: 8am - 5pm EST or 9am - 6pm EST
Work Site: In-office 4 days (Mon-Thur) remote (Fri) About the Role: We are seeking an experienced Staff Electrical Engineer to lead the design, development, integration, and testing of complex electrical and control systems for advanced robotic, electromechanical, and mission-critical technologies. This position offers the opportunity to work on highly innovative, one-of-a-kind engineering projects in a collaborative environment focused on solving complex technical challenges.
The ideal candidate will combine strong electrical engineering expertise with hands-on system integration and testing experience, while leading multidisciplinary engineering teams through the full product development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities: - Lead electrical and control system design efforts for complex engineering projects.
- Mentor, supervise, and provide technical guidance to small and medium-sized engineering teams.
- Develop system architectures and electrical designs from high-level requirements.
- Participate in and lead design reviews, technical evaluations, and problem-solving activities.
- Collaborate closely with mechanical, software, and systems engineering teams.
- Support system integration, troubleshooting, validation, and testing activities.
- Ensure engineering deliverables meet performance, quality, and schedule objectives.
- Take ownership of technical outcomes while exercising sound engineering judgment and decision-making.
Required Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotics Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of electrical engineering experience involving the design, analysis, integration, troubleshooting, and testing of complex electrical or electromechanical systems.
- Experience throughout the full engineering lifecycle, including concept development, design, simulation, assembly, integration, and verification.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience integrating Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) hardware and developing system interfaces.
- Strong knowledge of electrical components, power supplies, control systems, relays, connectors, wiring devices, and safety systems.
- Experience with embedded control systems, single-board computers (SBCs), sensors, actuators, and industrial automation.
- Expertise with communication protocols such as:
- Ethernet
- USB
- RS-232 / RS-422 / RS-485
- SPI
- I2C
- CAN
- Experience designing DC power systems and calculating system power requirements.
- Knowledge of grounding, shielding, EMI mitigation, and electrical noise reduction techniques.
- Ability to generate and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and system block diagrams.
- Proficiency with electrical test equipment including oscilloscopes, multimeters, spectrum analyzers, power analyzers, and communication analyzers.
- Experience with engineering tools such as:
- Altium Designer
- SPICE
- AutoCAD
- SolidWorks
- SolidWorks Electrical
- MATLAB
- MathCAD
- Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Nice to Have: - Marine, underwater systems, robotics, or autonomous systems experience.
- Experience with ROVs, AUVs, sonar systems, or related technologies.
- Knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, IEC, ISO, NEMA, NEC, MIL, or similar engineering standards.
- PCB design experience.
- Fiber optics experience.
- Motor drives, automation, and robotics expertise.
- Closed-loop control systems design and tuning experience.
- Low- to medium-voltage power systems experience.
- Machine safety systems knowledge.
- Programming or scripting experience.
- Willingness to travel occasionally within the U.S. or internationally for project-related activities.
