Position: Asphalt QC Lab Manager

Location: Hoffman Estates, IL

Compensation: $80,000 – $100,000 PA


Position Overview

The Asphalt QC Lab Manager is responsible for managing all incoming and outgoing materials associated with the assigned asphalt plant. This role ensures that materials are tested in compliance with industry standards and that all quality control data is accurately documented and reported to regulatory and inspection agencies. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, leadership capability, and a proactive approach to quality management.


Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Asphalt QC Manager/Coordinator to develop and optimize mix designs for performance, durability, and cost efficiency
  • Enforce strict adherence to company safety policies and procedures within the laboratory environment
  • Supervise, mentor, and schedule lab technicians to ensure efficient daily testing operations
  • Perform daily production testing and quality assurance checks
  • Manage annual laboratory inspections and oversee monthly R-18 lab and equipment calibrations
  • Ensure proper maintenance, calibration, and repair of laboratory equipment
  • Oversee annual plant calibration, including documentation and regulatory submittals
  • Develop and implement job-specific Quality Control (QC) addendums

Additional Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with plant and field personnel to ensure timely collection and testing of material samples within project specifications
  • Identify quality concerns, initiate corrective actions, and ensure effective resolution
  • Prepare, review, and submit QC reports in accordance with company and regulatory standards
  • Maintain accurate and organized testing records
  • Communicate test results and insights through reports, charts, and presentations to management, production teams, and field staff

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of civil construction materials, asphalt mix design, and testing methodologies
  • High attention to detail with strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with team supervision and development
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-driven with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Track record of delivering projects on time and within budget
  • Flexibility to work extended hours, including nights and weekends as required
