Position Overview:

The Asphalt Plant Assistant Superintendent supports the Asphalt Plant Manager in overseeing daily plant operations and ensuring efficient, safe, and environmentally compliant production. This role plays a key part in maintaining operational continuity, meeting production targets, and upholding the organization’s standards for quality, safety, and performance. The position also contributes to leadership development, workforce planning, and continuous improvement initiatives across plant operations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Asphalt Plant Manager in leading production teams, including operations and quality control, while developing leadership capabilities for future advancement
  • Promote and maintain a strong safety culture by supporting environmental, health, and safety initiatives and continuous improvement practices
  • Support supervision, onboarding, and training of plant personnel to enhance performance and operational efficiency
  • Assist in managing budgets and executing cost-control initiatives aligned with plant objectives
  • Coordinate daily operational planning, including production schedules, maintenance, repairs, loadout, and delivery activities
  • Collaborate closely with Quality Control teams to monitor outgoing materials and ensure product quality standards are met
  • Support maintenance planning, scheduling, and execution of emergency repairs to ensure uninterrupted plant operations
  • Help drive accountability across teams for continuous improvement initiatives and operational excellence
  • Contribute to leadership development and succession planning efforts within the plant
  • Assist in customer communication, addressing operational concerns, and escalating critical issues to the Plant Manager
  • Participate in day-to-day plant and facility management activities
  • Support seasonal operations, including winter planning, mix design coordination, and administrative tasks

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and project management skills
  • Willingness to develop budgeting, financial analysis, and resource planning capabilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously
  • Basic experience in an industrial, manufacturing, engineering technology, or related environment

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills across all organizational levels
  • Knowledge of production and manufacturing processes and best practices
  • Demonstrated potential to develop supervisory and leadership skills
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with the capacity to handle ambiguity
  • Basic analytical and mathematical skills
