Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Embedded Body Controls Engineer to drive the evolution, integration, and optimization of automotive body control software and systems. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in state machines, embedded software, C/C++ development, automotive communication protocols, and hardware/software integration.
This role requires a strong understanding of complex networked embedded systems and the ability to work closely with electrical, software, mechanical, manufacturing, and validation teams throughout the product lifecycle.
Key Screening Focus
State machine expertise is the primary screening focus. Candidates should be able to demonstrate practical experience designing, developing, debugging, or integrating state-machine-based embedded systems.
Embedded C experience remains highly important, although the relative weighting of C programming skills may vary depending on the specific position.
Candidates with strong state machine and embedded software experience may be considered even if their Embedded C experience is comparatively lighter, depending on the role requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Drive the evolution of body controls software architecture, developing innovative solutions and defining clear hardware/software interfaces.
Lead early-stage hardware and software integration, validating system performance against technical and system requirements.
Translate high-level vehicle objectives into detailed software specifications for body control systems.
Analyze field data and system performance to identify opportunities for continuous optimization and improvement.
Collaborate with validation teams to develop comprehensive test strategies and validation plans for body control functionalities.
Diagnose and resolve complex hardware/software integration issues throughout the product lifecycle.
Evaluate the impact of design and architecture changes on body control systems, including hardware and software dependencies.
Support functional safety activities, including DFMEA and HARA analysis for body control systems.
Provide technical guidance to cross-functional teams on electrical, software, mechanical, and manufacturing considerations.
Facilitate cross-functional understanding of system dependencies and ensure effective integration across vehicle domains.
Participate in design reviews, technical discussions, troubleshooting, and system-level decision making.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
Strong experience with state machines and state-based software design.
Proficiency in Embedded C and/or C++ development.
Experience working with embedded software and complex networked systems.
Strong problem-solving and debugging skills across hardware/software environments.
Ability to analyze system and field data to identify performance issues and optimization opportunities.
Understanding of hardware and software development lifecycles.
Experience leading or contributing to complex, cross-functional engineering projects.
Strong understanding of electrical engineering and mechatronic systems.
Experience with automotive communication protocols such as CAN and/or LIN.
Familiarity with CAN/LIN development, diagnostics, and associated engineering tools.
Knowledge of automotive functional safety methodologies, including DFMEA, HARA, and Fault Tree Analysis (FTA).
Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python is preferred.
