Job Title: User Experience Accessibility Specialist II
Location: Remote/WFH and only the first week onsite in any one of the following locations: NYC (and surrounding areas), Charlotte, San Antonio, DC, Irvine
Duration: 5 months+ contract
Description:
- The UX Accessibility Specialist ensures the client digital's products are accessible and usable for clients, branch teams and colleagues. They use their knowledge of disability, assistive technology, internationally recognized accessibility standards (WCAG), and industry best practices to guide accessible product design, development, and procurement decisions. They may partner with various stakeholders including Product, Technology, UX, Sourcing, and Legal. The UX Accessibility Specialist helps create optimal user experiences for users of all abilities by understanding business requirements and constraints and aligning digital experiences with the Edward Jones Accessibility Standards to make products that exceed user’s expectations both in terms of their design and functionality.
Job Description:
- Advocate for the user throughout the design and development process, ensure solutions address real user needs and contribute to seamless, intuitive experiences.
- Evaluate the current state of the user experience. Identify, user pain points, and align with product goals and technical constraints. This includes manual and automated.
- Understand business and accessibility tradeoffs. Understand and communicate the impact design, development and procurement decisions may have on users with disabilities, leaning on Sr UX Accessibility
- Specialists and leadership when needed.
- Assist in the prioritization of accessibility defects and enhancements.
- Guide Developers on accessible development practices. Using knowledge of HTML, CSS, and ARIA.
- Create accessibility annotations for development, including, call outs for keyboard interaction, screen reader announcements, ARIA guidance, etc.
- Share digital accessibility training that empowers colleagues to incorporate accessibility into their own work.
- Contribute to cross accessibility team alignment by suggesting updates to team documentation on patterns and components.
Qualifications:
- Minimum: Assistive technology such as JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver, keyboard navigation, Windows high contrast mode, Automated accessibility testing tools such as: Axe and Wave, Disability inclusion methodologies, Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
- Preferred: Agile Methodologies, Branch systems and tools, User experience methodologies, and tools
Skills:
Minimum: Accessibility & Inclusive Design, Problem Solving, Relationship Building, User Acceptance Testing, User-centered Design
Preferred:
Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Software Development, Storytelling, User Interface Design
