Quality Automation Engineer with Cloud Native testing(Azure)

Position Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive QAT Automation Engineer to join our data engineering team. This role will focus on designing, developing, and maintaining automated testing frameworks across our backend data pipelines, middleware services, and frontend applications. The ideal candidate will have experience in cloud-native testing, CI/CD integration, and observability tooling to ensure high-quality, reliable, and performant systems.

This is an onsite role based in Houston, Texas.

Key Responsibilities:
Backend Testing: Automate validation of data ingestion from databases, APIs, and web scraping sources. Ensure data quality, integrity, and consistency.
Middleware Testing: Validate API endpoint availability, response accuracy, and SFTP site accessibility.
Frontend Testing: Automate UI testing for web applications and other user-facing interfaces.
CI/CD Integration: Publish test results to Azure DevOps pipelines and Log Analytics custom tables.
Observability: Build and maintain Grafana dashboards and alerts to visualize test results and system health.
Local Dev Support: Enable local execution of QAT tests for development and debugging.
Collaborate with developers, data engineers, and DevOps to integrate testing into the development lifecycle.
Required Skills & Experience:
Playwright for end-to-end and UI automation testing.
Strong experience with Azure Cloud Services, including Azure DevOps, Azure Functions, and Azure Log Analytics.
Proficiency in CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions.
Familiarity with SonarQube for code quality and static analysis.
Scripting skills in BASH and PowerShell for automation and test orchestration.
Experience writing KQL queries for monitoring and diagnostics in Log Analytics.
Hands-on experience with Grafana: creating dashboards, configuring data sources, setting up alerts and notifications.
Ability to set up and troubleshoot local development environments for test execution.
Basic Skills & Competencies:
Proficiency with Git and GitHub: branching, pull requests, code reviews, and version control workflows.
Understanding of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies.
Basic networking concepts: HTTP/S, DNS, TCP/IP, proxies, and firewalls.
Ability to write and understand SQL queries for backend data validation.
Familiarity with JSON and XML formats for API and config file handling.
Comfortable with Linux/Unix command line operations and scripting.
Experience with test case design, bug tracking, and reporting tools (e.g., Azure DevOps Boards, Jira).
Knowledge of test data management and mocking strategies.
Awareness of authentication/authorization mechanisms (OAuth, API keys).
Understanding of data privacy and compliance considerations.
Familiarity with package managers (e.g., npm, pip, apt, choco) for dependency management.
Basic exposure to Docker or containerized environments.
Proficiency with IDEs like VS Code or IntelliJ for development and debugging.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with data engineering or data pipeline testing.
Familiarity with RESTful API testing tools (e.g., Postman, REST Assured).
Understanding of data validation techniques and schema enforcement.
Exposure to Agile/Scrum methodologies.

The determination of this range includes various factors not limited to skill set, level, experience, relevant training, and licensure and certifications. To support the ability to reward for merit-based performance, CGI typically does not hire individuals at or near the top of the range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $79,600.00 - $176,300.00.
