Overview:
Location: New Jersey
Salary: $95,000 – $105,000

We are seeking a COBOL Developer who will support our client with the maintenance, enhancement, and modernization of enterprise applications in a mainframe environment. This role is responsible for developing and supporting stable, efficient solutions that enable critical business operations and improve system performance. The ideal candidate is experienced in COBOL development and comfortable working across legacy systems, batch processing, and production support.

Duties:

• Develop, maintain, test, and support COBOL applications in a mainframe environment
• Analyze business and technical requirements and translate them into effective application solutions
• Modify existing programs to correct defects, improve performance, and support changing business needs
• Write, execute, and document unit tests and support system and user acceptance testing
• Develop and maintain JCL for batch processing and job scheduling
• Work with databases and file structures to support application functionality and data integrity
• Troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement timely resolutions
• Prepare technical documentation, including program specifications, testing results, and support procedures
• Collaborate with developers, analysts, testers, and business stakeholders throughout the software development lifecycle
• Support deployment activities and post-implementation validation for application updates and enhancements

• Associate’s degree or combination of experience and education
• 5+ years of experience developing and maintaining COBOL applications
• 3+ years of experience working in an IBM mainframe environment
• 3+ years of experience with JCL and batch processing
• 3+ years of experience with CICS, DB2, VSAM, or comparable mainframe technologies
• 2+ years of experience with application maintenance, troubleshooting, and production support
• 2+ years of experience with software testing, debugging, and defect resolution
• 2+ years of experience reviewing technical requirements and translating them into development tasks
• Experience with full software development lifecycle activities, including design, development, testing, implementation, and support
• Experience preparing technical and system documentation
• Ability to analyze and resolve complex technical issues in legacy application environments
• Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
