Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Microsoft Fabric Solution Architect to lead the modernization of the enterprise data platform by migrating from Azure SQL and traditional ETL architectures to Microsoft Fabric. The architect will define the target-state architecture, migration strategy, governance model, and best practices, while guiding Data Fabric Engineers through implementation.
This role requires strong hands-on architecture expertise across Lakehouse, OneLake, Fabric Data Factory, Spark, Fabric Warehouse, and Power BI, along with stakeholder leadership and design authority.
Key Responsibilities
Architecture & Design Leadership
- Define the end-to-end Microsoft Fabric architecture covering ingestion, storage, transformation, analytics, and consumption.
- Design a Lakehouse-based target architecture using OneLake and Medallion (Bronze/Silver/Gold) patterns.
- Establish standards for workspace design, naming conventions, and artifact organization.
- Define data modeling strategies (Lakehouse vs Fabric Warehouse).
Migration Strategy & Execution
- Assess the current Azure SQL + ETL landscape and define a phased migration roadmap.
- Decide modernization approaches: lift-and-shift, re-platform, or re-architect.
- Define patterns for incremental loads, CDC, and historical backfills.
- Guide Data Fabric Engineers during migration execution and resolve design challenges.
Governance, Security & Compliance
- Define enterprise-grade security and governance architecture for Fabric.
- Align RBAC, workspace permissions, data access policies, and sensitivity labels.
- Integrate Microsoft Purview for cataloging, lineage, and compliance.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory and organizational standards.
Performance, Scalability & Cost
- Define capacity planning and scaling strategies (F-SKU).
- Design for performance optimization across Spark, pipelines, and Warehouses.
- Establish cost-optimization and FinOps best practices.
- Ensure high availability, resilience, and operational scalability.
DevOps & Operational Readiness
- Define CI/CD strategy for Fabric artifacts using Git and Azure DevOps.
- Establish environment separation (Dev/Test/Prod).
- Define monitoring, alerting, and operational support models.
- Create architecture runbooks and design documentation.
Stakeholder & Team Leadership
- Act as the technical authority for Fabric-related decisions.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders, BI teams, security, and platform admins.
- Mentor and guide Data Fabric Engineers on architecture best practices.
- Support architecture reviews, design approvals, and client workshops.
