Overview
Our client is seeking a Director of Enterprise Data & Platforms to serve as a strategic technical leader responsible for defining, building, and executing the enterprise data strategy across the organization.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone with strong experience in enterprise data architecture, modern data platforms, data modeling, analytics, and cloud-based data modernization. The ideal candidate will have experience building scalable data platforms that support analytics, operational reporting, regulatory needs, business intelligence, and future AI initiatives.
This leader will help drive the organization's move toward a modern lakehouse architecture in Microsoft Fabric, while building trusted data models, governed data products, and a high-performing data architecture and engineering team.
Experience with Oracle Utilities / Oracle Energy & Water platforms is a strong plus, especially Oracle CCS, CC&B, OFS, and WACS, but it is not required for the right candidate with strong enterprise data platform leadership, Microsoft Fabric expertise, and complex systems integration experience.
Key Responsibilities Enterprise Data Strategy & Leadership
- Serve as the enterprise data architecture leader for the organization.
- Define and execute the enterprise data strategy, roadmap, and modernization plan.
- Act as the primary technical authority for data architecture, platforms, data integration, and enterprise reporting strategy.
- Partner with executive leadership to align data strategy with business, regulatory, financial, and operational priorities.
- Establish enterprise architecture standards, data design patterns, governance models, and platform best practices.
- Drive adoption of scalable, reusable data products and domain-driven data architecture.
- Lead cross-functional collaboration across IT, operations, finance, analytics, and business leadership teams.
Data Architecture & Enterprise Modeling
- Lead the design of complex enterprise data models, dimensional schemas, and conformed data structures.
- Architect integrated data models across operational, financial, customer, project, asset, and enterprise systems.
- Design high-quality data structures that support enterprise analytics, dashboards, reporting, operational intelligence, and AI readiness.
- Ensure data models are scalable, trusted, reusable, and aligned with business definitions across the enterprise.
- Provide deep technical leadership in enterprise data modeling, dimensional design, and semantic layer architecture.
Enterprise Systems & Oracle Platform Integration
- Lead integration of data from complex enterprise systems into modern cloud data platforms.
- Provide architecture guidance for integrating operational, ERP, project, asset, field service, and customer data.
- Experience with Oracle Fusion ERP, Oracle PPM, and Oracle analytics or integration platforms is highly preferred.
- Experience with Oracle Utilities / Oracle Energy & Water platforms is a strong plus, including:
- Oracle Customer Care & Billing / Customer Cloud Service, including CCS and CC&B
- Oracle Field Service, including OFS
- Oracle Work and Asset Cloud Service, including WACS
- Experience with FAIDP and UAIDP is a plus.
- Oversee enterprise data ingestion, transformation, and integration strategies across business-critical systems.
- Guide engineering teams on best practices for data extraction, transformation, storage, access, and performance.
Microsoft Fabric Platform Leadership
- Lead the design, architecture, and implementation of Microsoft Fabric across the enterprise.
- Own the architecture for key Microsoft Fabric capabilities, including:
- Lakehouse
- Warehouse
- OneLake
- Data Factory pipelines
- Data orchestration
- Power BI semantic models
- Lead the transition to modern lakehouse and medallion architecture patterns, including Bronze, Silver, and Gold data layers.
- Ensure the Microsoft Fabric platform is scalable, secure, high-performing, cost-effective, and built for long-term enterprise use.
- Oversee data pipeline design, ingestion frameworks, transformation processes, and Change Data Capture strategies.
- Partner with analytics and reporting teams to create a strong Power BI semantic layer and trusted reporting foundation.
Data Governance, Quality & Compliance
- Establish enterprise-wide data governance, metadata management, and data quality frameworks.
- Promote a culture of trusted, governed, and well-documented enterprise data.
- Ensure data architecture and platform standards support regulatory, compliance, and audit requirements common in utility environments.
- Define standards for data ownership, lineage, quality, access, security, and stewardship.
- Partner with business leaders to improve confidence in enterprise reporting and analytics.
Team Leadership
- Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing data architecture and engineering team.
- Set technical direction, development standards, and delivery expectations for data architects, engineers, and platform resources.
- Provide coaching, career development, and technical guidance to team members.
- Lead teams through enterprise-scale modernization initiatives, platform implementations, and data transformation programs.
- Foster collaboration between technical teams, business stakeholders, and executive leadership.
Required Skills & Experience
- 10+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, enterprise data platforms, or data leadership.
- 5+ years of experience in a leadership role, such as Manager, Senior Manager, Director, or equivalent.
- Strong hands-on experience designing and leading enterprise-scale data platforms.
- Extensive hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric, including:
- Lakehouse
- Warehouse
- Data Factory
- OneLake
- Power BI semantic models
- Deep expertise in enterprise data modeling and dimensional design, including star schemas and conformed dimensions.
- Strong SQL, data transformation, data architecture, and data design skills.
- Proven experience integrating data from complex enterprise systems into modern data platforms.
- Experience leading enterprise-scale data platform implementations or modernization programs.
- Strong understanding of data governance, metadata management, security, and data quality best practices.
- Ability to operate as both a strategic leader and a hands-on technical architect.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work directly with executive leadership, business stakeholders, and technical teams.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field.
- An equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience within electric, gas, water, or utility environments.
- Experience with Oracle Fusion ERP, Oracle PPM, and Oracle analytics or integration platforms.
- Experience with Oracle Utilities / Oracle Energy & Water platforms, including CCS, CC&B, OFS, and WACS.
- Experience with FAIDP and UAIDP.
- Experience supporting regulatory, operational, financial, and customer analytics within a utility organization.
- Experience with data governance tools, data cataloging, metadata management, and data quality frameworks.
- Familiarity with AI/ML enablement, advanced analytics platforms, and modern enterprise data product strategies.
- Microsoft, Azure, or data platform certifications.
- Experience building or modernizing enterprise data teams.
- Experience partnering directly with executive leadership on enterprise transformation initiatives.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- This is a full-time position requiring relocation to Louisiana.
- Work is primarily performed in a professional office environment.
- Must be able to operate a laptop, desktop computer, phone, and standard office equipment.
- Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
