Duties

Help

  • Provides comprehensive technical support and guidance to assigned programs within DLA Information

    Operations, Program Executive Office ...
  • ...in matters relating to information management issues that involve a

    wide range of Information Technology (IT) management.
  • Provides support in the following: planning, installation, configuration, testing, implementation, and

    management of the systems environment in support of the organization's IT architecture and business

    needs
  • Oversees systems testing, coordinates form documentation preparation and represents the organization

    in matter pertaining to assigned projects.
  • Provides occupational, technical, and analytical advice to the staff.
  • Responsible for analyzing critical system requirements in response to business requirements, risks, and

    costs
  • Serves as audit liaison between J6T and J62 Program Managers, works closely with other J/D Codes to

    drive audit compliance for the Enterprise, and reports status to J6 Leadership.
  • Analyzes audit data to identify trends, themes, and opportunities for improvement
  • Gathers audit lessons learned and leverages to incorporate into audit playbooks to drive audit best

    practices
  • Focuses on automation of repetitive tasks and explores the implementation of AI to assist in audit workload
  • Briefs senior J6 leadership on a regular basis on all the above with a focus on tailoring the messaging and

    recommendations toward an executive audience

Qualifications

To qualify for an IT Specialist (Operating Systems) your qualifications must include:

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to

successfully perform the duties of the position, and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-14 level,

applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS- 13 level or equivalent under other pay

systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including timein-

grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any

other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience

includes:

  • Performs continuing analysis and feasibility evaluations of software/hardware proposals, trends, and concepts in terms of validity in Service and Agency environments.
  • Prepares portions of technical manuals defining software/hardware specifications, installation standards, applications program set up requirements, etc. for distribution to all user personnel.
  • Conducts and/or extends research in advanced computer applications techniques, software/hardware system design concepts and logic, and software/hardware interactive control schemes where precedents are non-existent and there is very little guidance.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.

Drug-Free Workplace Policy

The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) is committed to maintaining a safe, drug-free workplace. All DLA employees are required to refrain from illegal drug use on and off duty. DLA conducts pre-employment, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, and random drug testing.

Applicants tentatively selected for employment in testing designated positions will undergo a urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Refusal to undergo testing or testing positive for illegal drugs will result in withdrawal of the tentative job offer and a six-month denial of employment with DLA from the date of the drug test. Employees in drug testing designated positions are subject to random drug testing.

The DLA drug testing panel tests for the following substances: marijuana, cocaine, opiates, heroin, phencyclidine, amphetamines, methamphetamines, fentanyl, norfentanyl, methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA), and opioids.

ADVISORY: Use of cannabidiol (CBD) products may result in a positive drug test for marijuana. DLA employees are subject to Federal law and under Federal law, Marijuana is a Schedule I drug and is illegal.
