Continuation of the position beyond that date is contingent on available funding.Position OverviewAt the Texas Education Agency's Office of Governance (OG), we are driven by a powerful mission: to proactively support school systems, keep students safe, and uphold Texas education law with integrity, objectivity, and excellence. Our core workstreams Field Support and Compliance & Investigations focus on strengthening governance, fostering a culture of accountability, and promoting continuous improvement across Texas schools. By working closely with school systems and agency teams, we help ensure every Texas public school student has access to a safe, highquality education.
The SelfReported Data Unit (SRDU) within the Compliance and Investigations Department supports TEA's efforts to improve outcomes for students by promoting accurate data reporting, effective implementation of educational programs, and compliance with state and federal requirements. SRDU uses data analysis, compliance reviews, stakeholder engagement, and continuous improvement practices to identify potential concerns, strengthen local systems, and inform agency decisionmaking.
The Data Analyst performs advanced (journeylevel) data analysis work related to selfreported data concerns and agency strategic initiatives and supports compliance reviews, investigations, and other department initiatives. The role uses standard statistical tools (SAS) and applies statistical methods, data management techniques, research skills, and analytical judgment to identify data anomalies, assess risk, evaluate trends, and support compliance monitoring, program improvement, and agency decisionmaking.
This position works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment, and reports to the team's Lead Data Analyst.

1. Data Anomaly Detection: supports prereferral projects by identifying appropriate data elements, setting meaningful thresholds, and establishing sound methodologies; collaborates with compliance analysts and subject matter experts to identify data anomalies, evaluate potential compliance concerns, assess associated risks and implications, and determine appropriate next steps consistent with agency procedures
2. Data Analysis: performs data analyses and adhoc data requests that are on time, high quality, and accurate, including creating clean and welldocumented SAS code that demonstrates understanding of business or policy decisions
3. Quality Control: performs accuracy and quality control checks of SAS programs and output as well as dashboards, reports, presentations, and other compliancerelated deliverables, including reviewing the work of other team members
4. Report Writing: prepares and presents concise, comprehensive, and accurate reports, dashboards, and presentations summarizing data analyses and findings for relevant internal and external stakeholders, including agency leadership
5. Internal Support: collaborates with internal subject matter experts, general counsel, and other agency staff to understand the background and potential impact(s) of data concerns and to determine required action(s) to resolve the findings; Provides internal support for team's compliance review activities by conducting data analyses, preparing outputs, and assisting with case management activities to ensure timely and accurate completion of compliancerelated deliverables
QualificationsMinimum QualificationsEducation: Graduation from an accredited twoyear college or university
Experience: At least three [3] years of experience in data analysis, research, and/or evaluation, including a minimum of two (2) years of experience in SAS
Substitutions: Education and experience may substitute for one another on a yearforyear basis
Other Qualifications- Share the belief that all Texas students can achieve at high levels and are able to succeed in college, career, or the military
- Knowledge of the research process, including experience with problem identification, project planning and design, statistical analysis, and results interpretation
- Highly skilled in conducting data analysis in SAS and working with large, institutional databases
- Ability to interpret and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures concerning agency programs and procedures
- Strong data visualization and presentation skills with ability to synthesize literature, data analyses, and results for a variety of audiences
- Knowledge of Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS), Texas Education Data Standards (TEDS), Texas Administrative Code and associated rules, Title 19, Public Information Act, FERPA, and Texas Education Code, Chapter 39 preferred
- Meticulous attention to detail with an ability to produce highquality work in a dynamic environment
- Selfmotivated and highly organized; ability to manage multiple projects at once and meet deadlines
- Desire to selfreflect, give/receive feedback, and continuously improve
- Willingness to work as a contributing member of a team and foster positive and effective working relationships with a variety of individuals and groups, internal and external to TEA
New hires, rehires, and internal hires will typically receive a starting salary between the posted minimum and the average pay of employees within the same classification. Offers are based on the candidate's experience and qualifications and consider internal pay equity across employees performing similar work.
The top half of the posted salary range is generally reserved for candidates whose qualifications exceed the role's requirements. The maximum of the range is typically reserved for candidates who significantly exceed the required and preferred qualifications.
