Senior Data EngineerHigh-Level OverviewFord is hiring a Senior Data Engineer to work on large-scale, production data systems. This is not a basic data engineering role focused on writing isolated Python scripts or SQL queries.
The emphasis is on:
- Data architecture
- Streaming data
- Production-grade pipelines
- Handling scale and failure
- This role requires systems thinking, not just data manipulation.
What the Role Is Focused On- Designing and building data pipelines that operate at scale
- Working with large, complex datasets in production
- Supporting streaming and near-real-time data flows
- Debugging and resolving production data issues
- Participating in data modeling and architecture decisions
- This is about how data moves through systems, not just querying it once it arrives.
Technology & Stack Context- Python (core language)
- BigQuery (current data platform)
- Google Cloud Platform (current cloud), but:
- Cloud-agnostic mindset is acceptable
- AWS or Azure experience can translate
Ideal Candidate Profile You're looking for someone who:
- Has built production data pipelines
- Has worked with streaming data
- Understands data modeling
- Has dealt with failures at scale
- Thinks in terms of systems and architecture
- Can explain why a pipeline is designed a certain way
