Summary

Senior DevOps Engineer - Operations

Job Description

Exceptional Senior DevOps Engineer - Operations required for our Managed Service Platform, focusing on AWS and Cloud infrastructure. This isn't your traditional break/fix support desk. You will be leading a high-performing team of platform engineers dedicated to maintaining, securing, and religiously optimizing cloud platforms.

As a Senior DevOps Engineer - Operations, you will own the complete lifecycle of medium-to-large platform components - from design through to continuous improvement. You'll balance operational excellence with deep technical strategy, acting as a trusted advisor and technical leader. Your work goes beyond reactive support: you proactively prevent technical debt, drive cost optimization, automate manual toil, and apply ITIL best practices to ensure consistent, high-quality outcomes. You'll work cross-platform (not domain-siloed), collaborate closely with networking, security, application, and DevOps teams, and lead vendor escalations when needed. If you are passionate about DevOps culture, continuous improvement, and delivering world-class infrastructure reliability, this role is for you.

What you'll do

Lead the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and performance of complex AWS cloud environments.

Act as the primary escalation point for platform issues, driving rapid incident response and resolution.

Manage identity and access controls, ensuring secure provisioning and adherence to least-privilege principles.

Drive continuous optimisation initiatives to improve platform performance, reliability, security, and efficiency.

Identify and implement cloud cost optimisation strategies, leveraging FinOps best practices to maximise value.

Review and evolve cloud architectures using the AWS Well-Architected Framework, delivering modernisation and scalability improvements.

Oversee platform lifecycle management, including upgrades, patching, and security governance with minimal disruption.

Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing cloud engineering team while building trusted client relationships and delivering exceptional customer outcomes.

Ideally you'll have

Extensive hands-on experience designing, managing, and optimising AWS cloud environments at scale.

Strong knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC), developer experience best practices, and FinOps principles.

Solid understanding of cloud networking, security, governance, and compliance frameworks.

A proactive, outcomes-focused mindset with a passion for continuous improvement and operational excellence.

Proven experience leading, mentoring, or managing technical teams within Cloud, DevOps, Operations, or Managed Services environments.

Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences.

Strong troubleshooting, incident management, and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to perform effectively under pressure.

AWS certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional or DevOps Engineer Professional will be highly regarded.
