OverviewOur client is seeking a
Network Engineer (contract-to-hire) to support enterprise network operations and modernization initiatives. This role will contribute to strategic lifecycle refresh efforts while assisting with daily network support and ticket resolution.
You'll join a
team of four engineers operating as Tier 1 support for the Network team, with a strong expectation of hands-on troubleshooting and minimal escalation.
Key ResponsibilitiesNetwork Support & Operations- Provide Tier 1 support for enterprise networking environments (routing, switching, wireless, firewalls)
- Triage and resolve network incidents, including:
- Connectivity issues
- Layer 3 routing problems
- Wireless performance and access issues
- Monitor ticket queues and handle daily support workload
- Perform root cause analysis and implement solutions
- Escalate to Tier 2 when necessary, though emphasis is on resolving issues independently
Network Engineering & Modernization- Assist with network lifecycle refresh initiatives (hardware upgrades, replacements, decommissioning)
- Support design, testing, and deployment of network enhancements
- Participate in SD-WAN support (routing policies, monitoring, connectivity)
- Contribute to continuous improvement of network performance and reliability
Infrastructure & Lifecycle Management- Support inventory tracking and lifecycle management of network hardware
- Coordinate upgrades across multiple sites
- Maintain documentation for network assets, configurations, and processes
Collaboration & Communication- Partner with cross-functional IT teams to resolve issues and deliver solutions
- Communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Maintain strong working relationships across teams
Required Qualifications- Strong hands-on experience with:
- Routing & switching (Layer 2/3)
- Wireless networking
- Firewall technologies
- Experience supporting enterprise-scale network environments
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills (including Root Cause Analysis)
- Solid understanding of network security principles and segmentation
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Familiarity with change management processes
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications- Experience with:
- Juniper / HPE networking routing & switching (other vendors acceptable)
- Aruba wireless platforms
- Palo Alto firewalls
- HPE SD-WAN (nice to have)
- Experience in multi-vendor network environments
- Exposure to automation or template-driven network management tools
- Knowledge of ITIL framework and structured lifecycle management
Additional Details- On-call rotation: Approximately 1 week per month (shared across team of 4)
- Daily ticket queue rotation among team members
- Hybrid schedule: Onsite Tuesdays & Thursdays required
- Candidates must be located in SE Wisconsin
- Strong emphasis on ownership and minimizing escalations

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr.
