Summary

Software Guidance & Assistance, Inc., (SGA), is searching for an Business / Data Analyst for a CONTRACT assignment with one of our premier Insurance clients in Hartford, CT .
We are seeking a Business/Data Analyst to partner closely with business and application stakeholders, Product Owners, and Data Engineering teams to ensure data requirements are clearly defined, accurately translated into technical requirements, and successfully delivered.

This role will serve as a key liaison between business stakeholders and Data Engineering, helping to ensure that data moves accurately and efficiently from point A to point B and that automation and data-driven processes are working as intended.

The ideal candidate will bring a strong combination of business analysis, data analysis, SQL, and stakeholder management skills, along with the ability to understand how data flows through applications and systems. Experience within the insurance industry is a significant plus.
Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with business and application stakeholders to understand business needs, gather requirements, and translate them into clear and actionable technical requirements.
  • Work closely with the Product Owner supporting two Scrum teams to define, clarify, and prioritize requirements.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and Data Engineering teams, ensuring requirements are accurately understood and effectively communicated.
  • Perform hands-on data analysis and SQL querying to validate requirements, investigate issues, and support the development of technical solutions.
  • Conduct data profiling to understand data quality, structure, relationships, and usage across applications and systems.
  • Develop and maintain data mapping documentation that clearly defines source-to-target relationships, transformation rules, and business requirements.
  • Develop a strong understanding of how data moves through applications and systems, from source through transformation and ultimately to its destination.
  • Validate that automation and data processes are functioning correctly from a data perspective.
  • Analyze data and identify discrepancies, trends, relationships, and potential issues that may impact business processes or technical solutions.
  • Translate business requirements into technical requirements that can be effectively understood and implemented by Data Engineering and development teams.
  • Facilitate communication between technical and non-technical stakeholders throughout the requirements and development lifecycle.
  • Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and collaborate with team members to ensure requirements remain clear and aligned throughout delivery.
  • Support testing and validation efforts by using SQL and data analysis techniques to confirm that solutions meet business requirements.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders and establish credibility across both business and technical teams.
  • Identify opportunities to improve data processes, automation, requirements, and overall business outcomes.
Required Skills and Experience
  • 2-4 years of experience as a Business Analyst, Data Analyst, Business Data Analyst, or similar role.
  • Strong SQL skills and the ability to independently query and analyze data.
  • Strong requirements gathering and business analysis skills.
  • Experience translating business requirements into clear technical requirements.
  • Experience with data profiling and data mapping.
  • Strong understanding of data flows and how data moves between applications, systems, and databases.
  • Ability to work effectively with both business stakeholders and technical teams, particularly Data Engineering.
  • Strong application stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working within the insurance industry is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with data engineering concepts, data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, and data transformation.
  • Experience supporting automated data processes or data-driven applications.
  • Experience working with dimensional databases, data warehouses, or data marts.
  • Experience working across multiple Scrum teams.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business, Data Analytics, or a related field.
Role Breakdown
This position will generally have an approximately 50/50 focus between SQL/data analysis and business requirements gathering .

The successful candidate will be comfortable moving between the business and technical sides of the organization, using SQL and data analysis to understand and validate requirements while effectively translating business needs into technical requirements for Data Engineering.
