Position Description

Revolutional is seeking a highly experienced Senior Java Developer to join our team of mission-driven technologists. In this senior role, you will design, lead, and oversee the implementation of complex, scalable enterprise solutions that address critical business and mission challenges for our federal and commercial clients. You will serve as the key technical authority, bridging business requirements with robust, secure, and innovative technical architectures-often in high-stakes environments involving cloud, cybersecurity, data management, and digital transformation initiatives.

You will collaborate closely with stakeholders, program managers, developers, and clients to ensure solutions are aligned with organizational goals, compliance standards (e.g., FedRAMP, NIST), and emerging technologies like cloud-native architectures, AI/ML integration, and post-quantum readiness.

Responsibilities:
  • Enterprise Architecture Design: Develop comprehensive solution architectures for large-scale enterprise systems, including reference architectures, roadmaps, and integration strategies that span on-premises, hybrid, and multi-cloud environments (AWS GovCloud, Azure Gov, etc.).
  • Requirements Analysis & Translation: Work with business and technical stakeholders to gather, analyze, and translate complex requirements into actionable technical designs that deliver measurable business value and mission outcomes.
  • Solution Leadership & Implementation Oversight: Lead technical evaluations, proof-of-concepts (PoCs), and pilot implementations. Provide architectural guidance and hands-on oversight throughout the full lifecycle-from ideation to deployment and optimization.
  • Technology Selection & Governance: Recommend and justify technology stacks, platforms, and vendors. Ensure adherence to enterprise standards, security best practices, scalability, performance, and cost-efficiency.
  • Hands-On Development and Prototyping: Design, develop, and validate critical components using modern development practices. Contribute to or lead implementation of backend services, APIs, and integration layers.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with engineering teams, cybersecurity experts, project managers, and clients to resolve technical issues, mitigate risks, and drive successful delivery of integrated solutions.
  • Innovation & Emerging Tech: Stay ahead of industry trends (e.g., AI, zero-trust architecture, quantum-resistant cryptography) and champion their adoption where they add strategic value.
  • Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Produce high-quality architectural artifacts, diagrams, decision records, and presentations for both technical and executive audiences. Mentor junior architects and engineers.
  • Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure all solutions meet relevant regulatory, security, and performance requirements in government and enterprise settings.

What You Bring (Requirements)
  • Core Languages & Frameworks: Strong proficiency in Java and Spring Boot for building scalable, enterprise-grade microservices and applications.
  • API & Integration: Experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs, GraphQL, and event-driven architectures.
  • Testing Frameworks: Hands-on expertise with test frameworks such as JUnit, Mockito, TestNG, Cucumber, or Spock for unit, integration, and end-to-end testing. Strong advocate for Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Behavior-Driven Development (BDD).
  • Modern Development Practices: Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker, ECS), and DevSecOps tooling (Jenkins).
  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications preferred.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in IT, with at least 4-5 years in solutions architecture or enterprise architecture roles, combined with significant hands-on software development experience.
  • Proven track record designing and implementing enterprise-scale solutions in complex environments, preferably supporting federal/government clients. Strong expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform), microservices, API management, data architectures, and DevSecOps practices.
  • Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect (Professional), Azure Solutions Architect Expert, TOGAF, or equivalent is highly desired.
  • Deep knowledge of security frameworks, NIST standards, and compliance in regulated environments.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Active security clearance (or ability to obtain one) may be required for certain projects.

Differentiators (Desired)
  • Experience with frontend technologies (React, Angular), databases (SQL/NoSQL), and messaging systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ).
