We are seeking a Construction Project Manager I to oversee major construction programs and multiple projects for the Department of State in Washington, DC. This role is pivotal in ensuring projects are executed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with all relevant regulations and standards. The Construction Project Manager I will serve as the central point of coordination among contractors, government stakeholders, and local authorities, driving project success from planning through close-out.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Manage major construction programs or multiple projects, ensuring compliance with contract specifications, safety regulations, and building codes.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with Department of State stakeholders to address schedule, cost, quality, and performance issues.
  • Review and verify construction drawings, plans, and specifications; recommend corrective actions as needed.
  • Maintain and update project schedules, including government activities, and monitor progress to identify and resolve delays.
  • Prepare independent cost estimates and oversee construction work for quality and compliance.
  • Serve as liaison among contractors, DOS stakeholders, local authorities, and other parties to facilitate project coordination.
  • Coordinate with Facilities Management to minimize impacts on other facilities and tenants.
  • Conduct daily site inspections, document project progress, and report issues promptly.
  • Work closely with on-site Diplomatic Security to facilitate contractor access and ensure safety protocols are followed.

Requirements
Required Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of specialized experience within the last 10 years managing major vertical construction projects such as multi-story buildings, large residential or commercial developments, or warehouses
  • Experience reviewing and verifying construction drawings, plans, and specifications for compliance and recommending corrective actions
  • Experience developing and maintaining construction project schedules, monitoring progress, identifying delay causes, and implementing corrective actions
  • Experience managing construction project finances, including cost monitoring, budgeting, forecasting total costs, and certifying payment requests
  • Experience analyzing and negotiating change orders, claims, and cost/time settlements
  • Proficiency using computer software for construction project management and fiscal control
  • Knowledge of construction QA/QC practices, including test procedures and test equipment
  • Knowledge of construction safety practices
  • Active Secret security clearance
  • Experience serving as a liaison with government stakeholders and construction contractors on project schedule, cost, quality, and performance issues
Preferred Qualifications:
  • PMP certification by start date or within 12 months of start date (and maintained)
