Senior Network Engineer (Hybrid)
About the Role
We're looking for a Senior Network Engineer to play a key leadership role in designing, scaling, and evolving high-performance backbone and access networks. This individual will combine deep technical expertise with strategic thinking to drive long-term network architecture, reliability, and performance.
You'll collaborate cross-functionally, mentor engineering teams, and serve as a technical authority influencing both internal initiatives and external partnerships.
Key Responsibilities

Network Planning & Architecture>
- Lead the design and evolution of optical, Layer 2, and Layer 3 networks to meet increasing bandwidth, performance, and resiliency requirements
- Develop and maintain technical roadmaps, architecture standards, and configuration policies
- Perform traffic engineering and capacity planning to guide long-term infrastructure investments
- Stay current on emerging technologies and industry trends to drive innovation

Technical Leadership & Strategy>
- Act as a subject matter expert and architectural authority for core and edge network environments
- Translate business and organizational priorities into scalable network solutions
- Identify systemic risks and proactively lead cross-functional solutions
- Represent the organization in technical forums, partnerships, and industry engagements

Collaboration & Execution>
- Partner with Network Operations, Security, and Program teams on deployments, troubleshooting, and network improvements
- Support end-to-end lifecycle of network services, from design through implementation and optimization

Mentorship & Knowledge Sharing>
- Mentor and guide junior and mid-level engineers
- Lead design reviews, share best practices, and foster continuous learning across the team

Automation & Tooling>
- Drive adoption of network automation for provisioning, configuration, and monitoring
- Evaluate and improve network visibility, telemetry, and performance tools
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in network engineering and architecture
- Deep expertise in:
- Routing protocols: BGP, OSPF, IS-IS
- MPLS technologies, including Segment Routing
- VPN services: L2VPN, IPVPN
- Traffic engineering and large-scale network design
- Experience with major networking vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, Arista, or Nokia
- Proven ability to mentor engineers, lead technical initiatives, and enforce best practices
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with DWDM / optical transport platforms (e.g., Cisco NCS series or similar)
- Familiarity with network automation frameworks and tools (e.g., Python, NSO, NetBox)
- Experience designing and managing IP peering strategies with cloud, content, or service providers
- Background working in large-scale, distributed, or research-oriented network environments
Work Environment
- Hybrid work setting
- Standard schedule: Monday-Friday, business hours
- Occasional evening/weekend work based on operational needs
- Periodic travel for conferences, collaboration, and industry engagement
