Be Part of What's Next

Behind every great digital experience is the technology that makes it possible. As a Full Stack Ad Tech Developer at Hearst Magazines, you'll help build the systems that power advertising, audience insights, and revenue across one of the world's leading media companies, solving complex engineering challenges while shaping the future of digital publishing.
About Hearst Magazines (Why Us?)

Hearst Magazines is one of the world's largest publishers, with a portfolio of 30 brands that inspire, inform, and entertain millions of readers across print, digital, social, video, and emerging platforms. Our teams combine world-class storytelling with cutting-edge technology to create exceptional consumer experiences and innovative advertising solutions. Join us to help shape the future of media through collaboration, creativity, and continuous innovation.
Key Responsibilities (What You Are Doing)
  • Design and develop scalable backend services that process high volumes of advertising event and audience engagement data through reliable ETL pipelines.
  • Build and maintain data ingestion, transformation, and enrichment systems that integrate with ad servers, supply-side platforms, data management platforms, and other third-party technologies.
  • Develop APIs and internal tools that support ad delivery, campaign measurement, troubleshooting, and revenue reporting.
  • Create and maintain front-end applications and operational tools using modern JavaScript frameworks such as React and Node.js.
  • Implement scalable approaches to data storage, retrieval, normalization, and processing across cloud platforms including Google Cloud Platform and AWS.
  • Collaborate with engineering, analytics, and ad operations teams to deliver accurate, privacy-compliant, and reliable data solutions for reporting and downstream applications.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize applications, APIs, data pipelines, and integrations to improve performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Contribute to automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software development practices while applying privacy-by-design principles across all systems.
Qualifications (What We're Looking For)
  • 3+ years of experience in full stack software development, with a strong focus on backend development, data engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, and JavaScript.
  • Experience building applications with modern JavaScript frameworks such as React and Node.js.
  • Hands-on experience designing, building, and maintaining ETL workflows, data pipelines, APIs, and backend services.
  • Experience working with cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform or AWS, including serverless technologies.
  • Familiarity with data warehouses such as BigQuery, Redshift, or similar technologies.
  • Experience with digital advertising technologies, including Google Ad Manager, header bidding platforms, OpenRTB, or related ad tech ecosystems.
  • Comfort using AI-assisted development tools to accelerate coding, testing, debugging, documentation, and infrastructure workflows.
  • Understanding of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and modern software engineering best practices.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with close attention to performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, analytics, product, and ad operations teams.
  • Understanding of data privacy requirements, including GDPR, CCPA, and privacy-focused system design principles.
  • Preferred experience with data governance tools, business intelligence platforms (such as Looker or Tableau), real-time data processing frameworks, machine learning pipelines, or retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) solutions.
  • This role is based in New York City and follows a hybrid schedule of four days per week in the office.
Benefits (What We Offer)
  • Work with the Best: Collaborate with top-tier professionals across media, advertising, tech, fashion, lifestyle, and publishing, shaping the future of these dynamic industries.
  • Grow Your Skills: Unlock your potential with access to innovative training programs, immersive workshops, and exclusive industry events.
  • Work-Life Harmony: Enjoy the flexibility of hybrid work, empowering you to balance professional success with personal priorities.
  • Foster Connection & Belonging: Join our Employee Resource Groups and help create a welcoming workplace where everyone feels valued and empowered.
  • Wellness First: Prioritize your well-being with a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance from Day 1.
  • Plan for Your Financial Future: Enjoy competitive financial perks, including a 401(k) plan with a generous company match.

The base salary range for this role is $110,000-$140,000. This position is not eligible for bonus or commission compensation. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, qualifications, and location.
