What You'll Be DoingAs a Data Center Technician, you will play a key role in installing, maintaining, and decommissioning network infrastructure. Responsibilities include:
- Install and decommission fiber optic and copper cabling systems in a data center environment
- Perform rack and stack of network and server equipment
- Pull, route, label, and terminate Cat5, Cat6, and fiber cabling
- Conduct fiber splicing (fusion splicing - ribbon/single fiber) and troubleshooting
- Test cabling using DSX 5000 testers, OTDR, and other equipment
- Download and validate test results using tools like Linkware / Linkware Live
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and design documents
- Install ladder racks, cable trays, and seismic bracing systems (overhead and underfloor)
- Maintain clean, organized, and compliant data center environments
- Identify live vs. decommissioned cabling and safely perform service swaps
- Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to ensure project success
- Provide updates on progress and assist with resolving technical issues
Required Skills & ExperienceWe're looking for technicians with a strong foundation in structured cabling and data center work:
- Experience with:
- Fiber optic cabling and fusion splicing
- Rack and stack installations
- Data center environments
- Low voltage cabling (Cat5/Cat6)
- Ability to pull, terminate, dress, and label cables
- Familiarity with cable testing procedures and troubleshooting
- Ability to read floor plans, wiring diagrams, and blueprints
- Experience using telecom tools and test equipment
- Understanding of industry safety standards and best practices
- Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship
Additional Qualifications (Preferred)- Experience with:
- MDF/IDF closet layout and build-outs
- Fiber trunk dressing and furcation
- Operating in a FIM database environment
- Service swaps and live network support
- Ability to manage documentation and job reporting
- Previous experience supporting large-scale data center deployments
Physical Requirements- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly
- Comfortable standing, walking, bending for extended periods
- Ability to climb ladders and work on raised platforms
- Capable of pulling cable and working in tight or elevated spaces
- Strong manual dexterity for tools and equipment
