responsibilities:
What are the top 5-10 responsibilities for this position (please be detailed as to what the candidate is expected to do or complete on a daily basis)?
1. Initial alert validation - Review new alerts (SIEM, EDR, NDR, CSPM, email security) to confirm they're legitimate and not noise or false positives.
2. Enrichment and context gathering - Pull supporting context (asset ownership, user identity, geo/IP reputation, related events, recent changes, threat intel) to understand the alert in situ.
3. Correlation and deduplication - Link related alerts/cases, merge duplicates, and identify patterns that indicate a broader campaign.
4. Decisioning and routing - Decide "close, escalate, tune" and route with a crisp summary.
5. Runbook adherence and improvement - Follow documented triage playbooks; note gaps or ambiguities and recommend updates to streamline future triage.
6. Documentation and evidence capture - Record all actions, timestamps, artifacts (hashes, IPs, logs, screenshots), and rationale to support incident handling and potential forensics.
7. Feedback to detection engineering - Provide signal quality feedback (false positive drivers, missing detections, tuning opportunities, threshold adjustments, new IOCs) to improve alert fidelity.
8. Communication and handoff - Deliver concise, high-signal handoffs and status updates to shift peers.
