Role OverviewThe IT Associate Cybersecurity Analyst will support Security Operations by monitoring and triaging security alerts to identify potential network threats, intrusions, or compromises. This role focuses on alert validation, analysis, documentation, and escalation to ensure timely and effective incident response.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor security work queues for alerts indicating potential threats or suspicious activity.
- Validate alerts by confirming accuracy and determining whether they are actionable or false positives.
- Analyze alerts to identify malicious behaviors and assess scope and impact.
- Gather and enrich contextual data (e.g., asset ownership, user identity, IP reputation, threat intelligence).
- Correlate related alerts, identify patterns, and consolidate duplicate cases.
- Determine appropriate next steps, including closing alerts, escalating incidents, or recommending tuning.
- Escalate confirmed incidents to the appropriate response teams with clear, concise summaries.
- Follow established triage runbooks and provide feedback to improve processes and detection quality.
- Document all findings, actions, evidence, and rationale to support incident handling and potential forensics.
- Communicate effectively during shift handoffs to ensure continuity and situational awareness.
Team Environment- Analysts work in shifts of 4-8 team members
- The broader Security Operations team consists of 50+ analysts
- Collaborative, shift-based SOC environment focused on continuous monitoring and response
Ideal Candidate Background- Experience analyzing cybersecurity threats in an enterprise environment
- Prior exposure to cybersecurity event monitoring or SOC operations
- Strong documentation skills, including clear recording of triage actions, sources, and response recommendations
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, Forensics, or equivalent work experience
- 0.5 - 1 year of relevant cybersecurity or IT security experience
- Working knowledge of security monitoring and alerting concepts
Preferred Qualifications- Industry-recognized cybersecurity certifications, such as:
- Security+
- CCNA CyberOps
- CCSP
- GCIA / GCIH
- CEH
- CySA+
- OSCP
