Job Duties and Responsibilities

Candidates must be willing to participate in at least one in-person interview, which may include a live whiteboarding or technical assessment session.

As an AWS Public Cloud Support Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting, operating, and optimizing AWS-based cloud infrastructure that underpins DISH's cloud-native 5G network. This role blends hands-on technical troubleshooting with operational excellence, ensuring high availability, performance, and security across AWS environments.

You will support production workloads, respond to incidents, automate operational tasks, and collaborate closely with engineering, DevOps, and SRE teams to continuously improve platform reliability and customer experience.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide L2 support for AWS public cloud environments, ensuring availability, performance, and reliability of production systems
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues across EC2, VPC, ELB/ALB, Auto Scaling, S3, IAM, Route 53, RDS, and EKS
  • Monitor cloud infrastructure using CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana, or similar observability tools, and respond to alerts and incidents
  • Perform incident management, root cause analysis (RCA), and post-incident reviews to drive long-term improvements
  • Support Linux-based workloads running on AWS, including OS-level troubleshooting, performance tuning, and security hardening
  • Assist with Kubernetes/EKS operations, including pod failures, networking issues, ingress controllers, and persistent storage
  • Automate repetitive operational tasks using Bash, Python, or Ansible, improving efficiency and reducing manual intervention
  • Collaborate with DevOps and CI/CD teams supporting GitLab pipelines for application deployment and infrastructure updates
  • Apply AWS and OS security best practices, including patching, vulnerability remediation, IAM policy reviews, and access controls
  • Support backup, restore, and disaster recovery processes to ensure data integrity and business continuity
  • Document operational procedures, runbooks, troubleshooting guides, and architectural diagrams
  • Participate in on-call rotations and work closely with cross-functional teams in an Agile/Scrum environment

Skills, Experience and Requirements

Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 2-6 years of hands-on experience supporting AWS public cloud environments

Skills and Qualifications:
  • Strong experience with AWS core services (EC2, VPC, IAM, S3, ELB, Auto Scaling, RDS)
  • Solid Linux system administration and troubleshooting experience in cloud environments
  • Working knowledge of Kubernetes/EKS, containerized workloads, and microservices architecture
  • Experience with monitoring, alerting, and incident response in production systems
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, especially GitLab or similar tools
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts, including DNS, routing, security groups, NACLs, and load balancing
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills
  • Experience supporting high-availability, large-scale production environments
  • Hands-on scripting experience with Python, Bash, or Perl
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation
  • Experience troubleshooting Kubernetes networking, ingress, and storage issues
  • AWS Certifications (AWS Solutions Architect, SysOps Administrator, or DevOps Engineer)
  • Knowledge of ITIL, SRE, or Lean Systems Engineering principles
