Job Description
We are seeking an Imaging operations Lead to design, develop, test, and support automation workflows for recovery-critical and factory workflows. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in Imaging pipelines and large-scale batch automation and a proven ability to stabilize on-prem operations, improve tooling and observability, and reduce manual operational load.
Responsibilities:
Imaging operations, currently performed through a combination of manual processes, in-house tooling, and individual expertise. The goal is to:
* Reduce dependency on single individuals
* Improve operational reliability and scalability
* Increase automation and reduce manual effort
* Ensure continuity and reliability with production systems
* Maintain production-level quality for recovery-critical workflows
2. Background and Context
Sure Recover Imaging supports production recovery and factory workflows, including catalog creation, image ingestion, validation, signing, and publishing.
Current operations exhibit the following characteristics:
* Highly bursty workload, aligned with factory milestones (PD, RC, RTM)
* Heavy reliance on manual verification and triage
* Partial automation with limited diagnostics and error handling
* Critical infrastructure hosted on local on prem hardware
* High volume of ODM/SEPM-originated noise, with low signal-to-noise ratio
3.1 Core Operational Activities (Must-Have)
The outsourced resource must take ownership of day-to-day imaging operations, including:
1. Catalog and Image Processing
o Ingest recovery images from upstream sources
o Validate image completeness and metadata
o Manage catalog generation for multiple platforms per cycle
o Handle large batch operations (e.g., 20+ platforms per run)
2. Publishing & Release Readiness
o Prepare images and manifests for cloud publishing
o Perform final readiness checks before production exposure
o Coordinate release timing with factory schedules
3. Manual Verification & Double-Checking
o Perform production-grade validation due to recovery-critical nature
o Cross-check automation outputs when upstream data is incomplete or incorrect
3.2 Triage & Support Activities (Must-Have)
1. ODM / SEPM Triage
o Review and triage incoming tickets, alerts, and issues
o Identify false positives vs real issues (noting that ~1% are actionable)
o Educate ODMs on recurring issues due to attrition and misconfiguration
2. Burst Handling
o Scale effort during peak factory windows (PD, RC, RTM)
o Operate at near full-time capacity during peak bursts
o Support reduced activity periods between bursts
4. Automation & Improvement Responsibilities (High Priority)
The outsourced role is not purely operational. A key success criterion is measurable reduction in manual load.
4.1 Automation Enhancements
The contractor is expected to:
1. Improve Existing Tools
o Enhance internal catalog management tooling
o Introduce meaningful error codes and structured error outputs
o Reduce reliance on manual log inspection
2. Pipeline Enablement
o Design and implement pipeline-based workflows for:
Manifest signing
Catalog publishing
o Reduce reliance on manual security group usage for signing
3. Error Observability
o Improve detection, reporting, and traceability of failures
o Enable faster root cause identification across large batch jobs
4.2 Infrastructure Stabilization
1. On-Prem Infrastructure Improvements
o Migrate imaging workload away from single-desk dependency
o Propose secure, shared, on-prem storage/compute model
o Ensure multi-user accessibility with appropriate security controls
2. Non-Cloud Constraint Awareness
o Solutions must account for:
High data transfer volumes
Cost sensitivity of cloud DTO transfers
Performance constraints during peak ingestion
5. Technical Program management
* Publishing and release management of components to Pulsar, Softpaqs and Cloud
* Co-ordination, triaging and streamlining the process as needed
* 6. Skills & Experience Requirements
6.1 Mandatory Skills
* Strong experience with large-scale batch automation
* Familiarity with image publishing pipelines
* Experience operating production recovery / factory-critical systems
* Comfort with manual triage under time pressure
* Ability to work with imperfect upstream data
* Strong practical and skillful knowledge on Pow
