Summary

Microbiology / Molecular Biology Laboratory Specialist Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Science (preferably Biology or related field)
  • Minimum 2 years of laboratory experience (Highly Desired)
  • Experience in a Molecular Biology laboratory (Preferred)
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform laboratory testing and analysis of samples using microbiology and molecular biology techniques
  • Conduct examinations for detection, isolation, and identification of microorganisms, toxins, antigens, and nucleic acids
  • Follow established procedures for specimen handling, processing, testing, and reporting
  • Extract nucleic acids using manual and automated methods
  • Utilize molecular techniques such as PCR, sequencing, MALDI-TOF, and Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS)
  • Evaluate, interpret, and validate laboratory results
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation
  • Perform quality control checks on laboratory methods, equipment, and materials
  • Monitor inventory of laboratory supplies and ensure availability
  • Assist in preparing epidemiological and statistical reports
  • Maintain competency across all assigned testing areas
  • Identify issues affecting test performance and take corrective actions
Testing Responsibilities
  • Perform high-complexity laboratory testing as authorized based on qualifications and training
  • Ensure all testing follows established laboratory procedures and quality standards
  • Maintain accurate records of testing, calibration, and maintenance activities
  • Participate in proficiency testing programs
  • Identify and resolve testing or reporting issues promptly
  • Document all corrective actions when deviations occur
Job Requirements / Skills
  • Strong knowledge of microbiology principles and related scientific disciplines
  • Familiarity with modern laboratory techniques and testing procedures
  • Ability to operate laboratory equipment and advanced scientific instruments
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety practices and standards
  • Understanding of regulatory guidelines (e.g., CLIA)
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to analyze data and prepare detailed reports
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
Work Environment & Responsibilities
  • Perform complex scientific analyses requiring high accuracy and attention to detail
  • Apply technical knowledge to solve laboratory-related problems
  • Work independently with minimal supervision
  • Follow strict safety protocols for handling biohazard and chemical materials
  • Ensure accuracy as errors may impact health and safety
Collaboration & Communication
  • Work closely with internal teams and laboratory staff
  • Communicate technical information clearly to stakeholders
  • Collaborate on improving laboratory processes and procedures
