Summary

Open to new opportunities in ISO 9001!? Join the leader in network hardware and software! 100% remote
Overview
We are seeking an experienced ISO 9001 Lead Auditor to support internal quality audits across engineering supply chain, services organizations, and software/hardware development programs. This role will partner closely with cross-functional engineering and delivery teams to assess compliance, identify meaningful improvement opportunities, and ensure alignment with ISO 9001 standards and internal quality management systems.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical auditing experience in software and hardware development environments, communicates effectively with technical stakeholders, and approaches audits as collaborative, value-driven engagements rather than interrogations.
Audit Execution & Delivery
Conduct ISO 9001 audits primarily focused on:
Engineering supply chain and services organizations
Software and hardware design and development projects
Apply our client's internal ISO 9001 auditing methodologies, tools, and policies after completing internal training and calibration.
Begin as an observer and co-auditor with veteran lead auditors, progressively advancing to independent lead auditor responsibilities.
Prepare thoroughly for audits by reviewing objective evidence, documentation, prior findings, and process artifacts.
Lead and conduct 8-10 stakeholder interviews per audit, typically one hour per interview, across technical and operational teams.
Analyze practice versus documented process, follow audit trails, and evaluate the effectiveness of controls.
Identify, document, and clearly communicate audit findings, risks, and improvement opportunities.
Author comprehensive audit reports, with an expectation that 80% of reports are completed within two weeks of the audit closing meeting.
Execute 2-3 audits per month once fully proficient, following an initial ramp of 3-6 co-audits.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
Partner with engineering, supply chain, and services teams to ensure audits are collaborative, professional, and value-adding.
Create a comfortable interview environment that encourages transparency and meaningful discussion.
Clearly explain audit purpose, scope, and outcomes to diverse technical audiences.
Leverage the client's audit tools and develop a strong understanding of functional processes across the organization.
Required Qualifications
Accredited ISO 9001 Lead Auditor certification
Familiarity with functional lifecycle processes, quality management systems, and supporting tools
Required Skills & Experience
Hands-on experience auditing software and hardware development environments, including design and development controls
Strong understanding of modern engineering practices, including:
Agile development methodologies
DevOps practices
Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery (CI/CD)
Ability to think like a systems engineer, understand end-to-end process flows, and connect technical details to quality outcomes
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to:
Adjust messaging to the audience
Build rapport and trust during interviews
Present findings clearly and objectively
Natural curiosity and analytical mindset, with the ability to cut through complexity to identify root issues and underlying meanings
Adaptability to evolving business needs, tools, and organizational processes
